Anemometer

An anemometer is a device used to measure wind or air speed. It has two main classes - those that measure speed and those that measure pressure. The first description of an anemometer was in 1450. Anemometers generally measure wind speed, estimate weather, estimate wave height, and estimate current speed and direction. They are used at weather stations globally. Cup anemometers work by measuring the rotation of cups in the wind, while digital anemometers use buttons and displays to directly show wind speed measurements.

ANEMOMETER

Anemometer is a device used for measuring wind or air speed, and

is common weather station instrument. The term is derived from greek
word anemos meaning wind, and is used to describe any air speed
measurement instrument used in meteorology or aerodynamics. The first
known description of an anemometer was given by Leon Battista Alberti
around 1450.

Anemometer can be devided into two classes : those that measure

the wind or air speed, and those that measure the wind or air pressure.
But as there is a close connection between the pressure and the speed, an
anemometer designed for one will give information about both.

THE FUNCTION OF ANEMOMETER

Anemometer have general function is :

1. Measuring wind or air speed

2. Estimate weather
3. Estimate wave height (laut)
4. Estimate the speed and direction of currents

Anemometers are used at almost all weather stations, from the frigid
Arctic to warm equatorial regions. Wind speed helps indicate a change in
weather patterns, such as an approaching storm, which is important for
pilots, engineers, and climatologists.

In mining engineering, Anemometer is used to calculate the wind

speed generated on the path mine fan duct. The faster the air flow
generated, the greater the flow of air that will be supply on the location of
the underground mine, especially miners workers.

KIND OF ANEMOMETER

1. Cup Anemometer
Some anemometers have what looks like a small fan in place of the
cups or propeller. As the wind or air blows, it spins the fan blades
and a tiny generator to witch theyre attached, which works a bit
like a bicycle dynamo. The generator is connected to an celectronic
circuit that gives an instant readout of the wind speed on a digital
display.
2. Digital Anemometer
Digital anemometer is a device consisting of buttons and display
screen. Digital anemometer has three scales of measurement, is
meters/second, km/h, and the north. In the digital anemometer
measruement can be performed repeatedly and the data will be
automatically stored in memory.

HOW TO WORK OF ANEMOMETER

1. Cup Anemometer
With the wind or air blowing on the cups on the device. The rotation
of the cups will be converted into a massive increase in the
language of mathematics. The cup on the anemometer used as tool
that captures the receptor or a simulation in the form of air gusts.
After the cups spins, then this will move a tool that will measure the
speed of the air blowing through the rotation of cups on the
anemometer.
2. Digital Anemometer (Mechanical anemometer)
1. Determine the wind or air direction, the facing the opposite
direction to the air direction.
2. Turn on the anemometer by pressing the button power.
3. The display screen facing towards the holder of the anemometer
and the wind is coming from behind the display screen.
4. Pay attention to the numbers on the display shows the wind
speed display. If the figure has been constant wind speed, press
and hold button, then record the result.
