IO Unit-ModelA-Connection and Maintenance Manual

The document provides information on connecting and maintaining a FANUC I/O unit that corresponds to the I/O Link+. It discusses the differences between the I/O Link+ and I/O Link interfaces, including increased transfer rates and number of signals for the I/O Link+. An interface module called the AIF01D is required to use the I/O unit with I/O Link+, and this allows compatibility with existing base units and I/O modules. High-speed counter modules with specific part numbers only support I/O Link.

I. CONNECTION

1. FANUC I/O Link +, FANUC I/O Link

I/O Link + and I/O Link are a serial interface which transfers I/O signals (bit data) between the CNC
unit and I/O unit-MODEL A (henceforth I/O Unit-A)Power Mate, and other units at high speed. In
I/O Link + and I/O Link control, there are master station and its slave stations. The master is the
control unit, and I/O Unit-A is the slave.
With the I/O Link +, the communication transfer rate is increased, compared to the I/O Link. More
signals and slaves (group) can be connected.

* The normal mode and the high-speed mode can be intermingled in I/O Link +. Please refer to a
PMC programming manual of the CNC unit corresponding I/O Link + for a high-speed mode setup.

interfaces of B can be used.
A channel 1 and 2 can be selected I/O Link + or I/O Link. Channel 3 is available only for the I/O Link.
Each of channels 1 and 2 is used for the I/O Link + or I/O Link according to the parameter setting.
According to the initial setting, channels 1 and 2 are used for the I/O Link. For the parameter setting,
refer to PMC programming manual of CNC unit corresponding to I/O Link +.
Moreover, The maximum number of I/O signals available for each channel is 2048/2048 for the I/O

About the function to detect abnormalities
This output module has overheating and over current protection, an output
protection function of a short circuit protection function, and DO common
monitoring function as a function to detect abnormalities. If a function to
detect abnormalities works, information will be notified to CNC.
If an output protection function works, LED F of this module will light up.
DO common monitoring function is generated when DO common voltage (load voltage) turns into below rated
voltage.
When a function to detect abnormalities works, please turn off the power supply of DO and a system and remove

#2 4. High-Speed Counter Module

The unit drawing number of A03B-0819-C053 and A03B-0807-C053 is a module only for I/O Link
among this module. When you use this module in I/O Link +, please use the module of the unit
drawing number of A03B-0819-C064.

5. Optical Adapter

The signal cable K1X shown in the general connection diagram can be extended to the maximum
length of 200 meters with optical fiber cables using an optical adapter for I/O Link + or I/O Link.
Keep in mind that the kinds of optical adapter differ by I/O Link + and I/O Link.

Note
1. For the cable K2X, the optical adapter for I/O Link + and I/O Link cannot be applied to.
2. In the following cases, make sure to use an optical fiber cable for K1X.
For cabling within the same cabinet, however, this applies only when the cable is 15 meters
or longer. When the cable is more than 10 meters long.
When the cable K1X runs between different cabinets and it is impossible to connect the
cabinets with a wire of 5.5 mm2 or thicker.
When there is concern that the cable K1X is influenced by strong noise.
For example; When there is a strong electromagnetic noise source beside the cable K1X such
as a welding machine and the like. When a noise generating cable such as a power cable and
the like runs for a long distance in parallel with the cable K1X.

5.5. Cautions for Using Optical Adapter
5.5.1. Configuring I/O Link + Using Optical Adapter

About restriction of the use number of the optical adapter per I/O Link +
When the optical adapter for I/O Link + is used by communication normal mode
The maximum of 16 partitions (they are the maximum of 10 partitions at the high-speed mode use)
can consist of I/O Link + using an optical adapter. Please use an electric cable for K1X of the other
partition.

Note
1. When using an optical fiber cable for I/O Link +, use optical adapters conforming to the same
specification on both ends of the optical fiber cable.
The required parts per partition which is constituted using an optical adapter
(the section to constitute is the 16 or less partitions)
Two optical adapter for I/O Link +
Two unit-to-unit connecting cables (K3X)
One optical fiber cable
2. Dont support the high-speed mode of I/O Link + in I/O Unit-A.

5.5.2. When Using Two I/O Link +, I/O Link Channels

Using two I/O Link +, I/O Link channels requires using the I/O Link connector adapter.
When using an optical adapter, you can use optical fiber cables between the whole divisions after I/O
Link connector adapter (all partitions on channels 1 and 2).
No optical fiber cable can be used between the CNC (JD44A or JD51A) and I/O Link connector
adapter (JD44B). Use a 1-meter electrical cable (A02B- 0236-K848).

Note
1. Do not have the cable length from the CNC (JD44A or JD51A) to the I/O Link connector adapter
and the to the optical adapter exceed 2 meters in total.

(Example) When an optical adapter is used for the partition #1 of a channel 2.

5.5.3. When Using Three I/O Link +, I/O Link Channels

Using three I/O Link +, I/O Link channels requires using the 3-channel I/O Link connector adapter.
When using optical adapter, you can use optical fiber cables between the whole divisions after an I/O
Link connector adapter (all partitions on channels 1, 2, and 3). No optical fiber cable can be used
between the CNC (JD51A) and I/O Link connector adapter (JD51B). Use a 1-meter electrical cable
(A02B-0303-K849).

Note
1. Do not have the cable length from the CNC (JD51A) to the I/O Link connector adapter and then
