    Hand 0perated Points

    All Hornby Points are " Self-isolating "


    which means that the Electric Current in

    *M
    the Track is switched on onlY in the
    direction for which the Point is set. This
    feature. permits two or more locomotives
    to be in use on a layout although there
    is only one Power Controller.

    Diagram I illustrates Points set in alternative
    positicns. ln each case the solid black rails indicate
    ihe " live " sections and the arrows A poiflt to the
    " dead " track rails.
    When points are used on a layout it is important
    that the Power Connecting Clip is correctly
    positioned-in front of the Points, as shown at
    'B' in Diagrams 2 and 3. lt must not be con-
    nected to a lcop or siding because the current
    would then only be fed to the remainder of the
    layout when the Points were set for that particular
    section.

    Diagram 2 illustrates an oval incorporating loop


    lines. A train may be held on one of the loops
    whilst a second train travels around the main line
    oval.

    Diagram 3 illustrates a layout with two sidings on


    which a second locomotive may be used. This
    locomotive is initially placed on one of the sidings
    with the Points set for the oval. The first train
    can now be run into the vacant siding. Change
    both points and run the second locomotive o{t
    on to the Main Line oval.
    Alternatively, stop the first train at position "C",
    change both Points and run the second locomotive
    out from one siding and into the other siding.

    It is advisable to avoid layouts incorporanng a


    return loop, Diagram 4, because a permanent short
    circuit will be created unless isolating rails, R.616,
    and R.046 or R.047 switches are incorporated. An
    additional i,ndependent Power Controller may also
    be required. (A leaflet may be obteined from the
    Service Department on receipt of a stampcd
    addressed envelope).

    REMOTE COT{TROL
    The Hornby R.663 Remote Control Packs (see
    overleaf) may be used to aonvert any Hornby
    Straight or Curved Poi.nt for operation froma
    '-Lever Switch positioned at your Control Centre
    (Diagram 5).

    POINTS BEMOTE CONTROL PACK

    Point Motors normally operate from a l5 volt A.C.


    Supply (Terminals 5 and 6 of the Hornby Control
    Centre units) but if a l5 volt A.C. Supply is not
    available a l2 volt D.C. uncontrolled supply may be
    used.
    The assembly diagrams illustrate " straight " Points,
    the same procedure applies to " Curved " Po,ints.
    Refer to diagrams 6 and 7 and hook the Armaturc
    link "D" into hole "E" on the Point control
    lever, then clip the Point Motor firmly into position
    on the point base, diagram I illt'strates the under-
    si'de of the assembly.
    The Poirnt Motor is controlled by the special black
    lever Switch, R.044, supplied with the pack.
    Diagram 9 shows the wiring plan for one point.
    Diagram l0 illustrates the wiring plan for two
    Points, note that only one connection is required
    from the lever switches to the Power supply, the
    switches plug into each other and the Power is
    automatically supplied to any number of switches,

    Hornby Lever Switches are designed to clip onto C'NE POINT
    the top of the Hornby Control Centre units o.r may
    be screwed to a baseboard.

    IMPORTANT
    The lever must never be held or left in any position
    other than at either end of the slot otherwise domoge

    moy be coused to the Point Motor through overheating.
    Always move the Lever by hand, it must never be
    flicked across or allowed to return by spring
    Pressure only.
