UNDER REGULATION 9 OF ANNEX V MARPOL 73/78 EVERY SHIP OF 400 GRT AND ABOVE
AND EVERY SHIP CERTFIED TO CARRY 15 PERSONS OR MORE MUST CARRY A GARBAGE
MANAGEMENT PLAN (GMP) WHICH THE CREW MUST FOLLOW.
MASTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FULL COMPLIANCE OF THE PLAN AND WILL APPOINT
A PERSON IN CHARGE TO CARRY OUT THE PLAN. HE IS RESPONSIBLE TO ENSURE
THAT THE SEPERATION ,COLLECTION,PROCESSING OF GARBAGE IS EFFICIENT
IN AN AREA OF THE SHIP AND THE PROCEDURES ON BOARD ARE CARRIED OUT
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GMP.

GARBAGE CATEGORIES
3-DISPOSAL OF FOOD WASTE AND ALL OTHER GARBAGES INCLUDING CARGO RESIDUES
PAPER PRODUCTS,RAGS,GLASS,METAL ,BOTTLES,CROCKERY AND SIMILAR REFUSES
IS PROHIBITED IF THE DISTANCE FROM THE NEAREST LAND IS LESS THAN 12 NAUTICAL
MILES
I-PLASTIC
II-CARGO RESIDUES,PAPER PRODUCTS , RAGS,GLASS,METAL,BOTTLES,CROCKERY,
DUNNAGE,LINNING AND PACKING MATERIALS.
III-FOOD WASTE IF DISTANCE IS LESS THAN 12 NM FROM NEAREST LAND.

1 AUGUST 2005, IS CONTANS AMMENDMENTS TO THE APPENDIX TO MARPOL
ANNEX V ON PREVENTION OF POLLUTION BY GARBAGE FROM SHIPS WHICH
RELATE TO THE RECORDING OF THE DISPOSAL OF CARGO RESIDUES IN THE
GARBAGE RECORD BOOK. AMMENDMENTS ARE AS FOOLOW:
(II)POSITION OF THE SHIP (LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE) NOTE FOR CARGO RESIDUES
DISCHARGES INCLUDE DISCHARGE START AND STOP POSITION.
