So far, we have discussed planning, organizing, plus monitoring and controlling, functions
that are at the heart of the project manager's job. These concepts can serve as a model for
setting up the specifics of operating our project management system, including our most
essential toolthe feedback loop (see Figure 1.1). This basic feedback loop does not,
however, cover all of the details that must be dealt with on an actual project. The Project
Control Cycle, shown in Figure 1.2 and discussed here, illustrates the practical workings of
project management.
