ENG 102

March 15, 2017

Racial profiling should be considered one of the most important and

recurring issues. This issue should be approached and assessed more than it

has been. It would be extremely productive if there was a class or public

service announcement to display that it is a relevant topic. Racial profiling is

the most important thing reoccurring problem. Racial profiling should mean

more to the government than it appears to be. In order to describe our world

as The land of the free equality has to exist. This PSA is specifically

targeted to the generations before us. To be racist or to carry hate is taught.

With that being said, it starts in our homes with the people we call

granddad and father. If the minds of the people before us change, hate

wouldnt be taught as much it is today.

A racial profiling PSA can be used based off of the rhetorical device,

schesis which is when you deride a persons argument by referring to their

way of thinking. You would be able to show and tell your audience that racial

profiling is wrong by using their point of view and applying it in to different

situations that are obviously wrong or cause them to alter their point of view.

This can be used to attract the older generations because it shows them

their ideas are wrong because they can be applied universally and be seen
as morally wrong or unjust. Racial Profiling has and can be expressed in

many other forms including not giving someone a job because of their race,

believing someone to be a criminal because of their race, or even to call the

police on someone as soon as they enter the store due to their height and

race. As seen in many instances across the country and the world.

Racial profiling will continue to exist in our everyday lives as long as

the people who practice the act arent aware of the problem. Using racial

profiling as a topic for a PSA is a strong argument because it brings

awareness to a reoccurring problem. Judging a book by its cover is an

example of how racial profiling started. For example, racial profiling occurred

in the instance where Trayvon Martin, age 16 at the time, was shot and killed

because he looked suspicious. To add to the death of this young man the

person who committed the crime was deemed not guilty. Things like this

should not be able to occur if someone is killed the person who did it should

pay the consequences regardless if they were afraid or scared for their life.

Just because a boy in school hits the teacher when they are being yelled at

isnt acceptable just because the little boy is scared. Lastly when John

Henson an African American professional center on the Milluake bucks

walked into the Rolex store the clerks thought it was acceptable for them to

press the emergency alarm button, police, and locking him in the store just

because he walked in. if thats normal to do in todays society then would it

be acceptable if a Caucasian person walk into a predominantly black church,

and its church members called the police because of what happened with
Dylan Roof. This is how schesis would come into play for this topic. It

wouldnt be just compare every Caucasian person who walks into a black

church to Dylan Roof because not everyone is similar, or have the same

intentions.

To get rid of racial profiling it needs to be made illegal to racially profile

someone and they need to pay the consequences depending on what the

situation is. So for instance the person who killed Trayvon Martin needs to be

held accountable for their actions. Because a sorry to a family or to the

person is not going to be able to bring him back to life. So George

Zimmermann should have been charged with murder and the new law which

would have been racial profiling. Racial profiling should be a minimum of at

least a 6 months in prison and that cannot be any less no matter the charge.

In conclusion, Racial profiling is a reoccurring problem that many

minority groups face today. This PSA should help target older people because

teenagers today are the main targets when it comes to experiencing racial

profiling, A change should start off by raising your children to not judge

people by their looks so that they can grow to be more open minded rather

than discriminating other group of people. Although this may not change in a

short period of time, the first step towards this change shall start in the

household.
