Personal Insight Reflections

1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively

influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.

In my second semester, I had the opportunity to help out others in a skill that Im very

good at, AutoCAD. This was because many saw my potential and recognized my vast

knowledge of the program in my previous experience. Many look forward to my

visualization and design skills to help them with their projects. In return, I receive more

experience and sometimes hone new skills which I could apply to my future designs and

have acquired more patience as well. When it came to group projects, I learned to work

effectively as a team by using each others specialties whether if it was in craftsman ship

or computer science. Such experience could help me in the near future with my

coworkers as to working with efficiency, accuracy, and speed, which is extremely

important in the field of drafting and interior design. I have even been told that some

students have decided to major in architectural field because of me. Because of this

experience, my opinion on helping others has changed drastically. I will now and forever

more be devoted to getting out of my own way and help others in order to possibly gain

valuable experience in leadership skills.

2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem

solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe
how you express your creative side.

The way I express my creativity is by designing houses and floor plans. As not being a

good artist in general, I take ugly designs and intertwine them with a house structure to

create a unique design. Such irregularities in a house helps me come up with new ideas

and makes the house look more modern. Not only that, these designs help bring a

challenge to think strategically. For example, placing windows and doors in certain

positions to receive the best lighting effects. Ive also have moved away from

symmetrical designs and started creating more elaborate ones instead as guided by my

teacher. To my surprise, I love the idea of which it can be referred to as a crazy design

sense. Not only does it allow you to use your imagination to its fullest potential, but it

also gives you a sense of pride once you have achieved a final product that has never

been seen before. The best part of my creative designs is to demonstrate it to people.

Their reaction always lights my spirit up and tells me Im doing a good job. I believe this

creative skill will certainly help me acquire a job in the field of internal design in college.
3. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.

Here at Sierra Vista High School, Drafting has been one of the biggest influences in my

entire life, so much so, that its more of a hobby now and hopefully interior design

becomes my major in my career someday. At first, Elementary Drafting seemed difficult

as it required pencil and measurement precision. I did not show much interest in the class

until the second semester when we were finally able to design our own drawings. It

wasnt just the subject that influenced me but the teacher himself. Mr. Estrada has easily

been the most influential person I have ever met in my entire life, he has taught me and

talked to me what it takes to be an architect and what it means. In result, I was convinced

to continue with the course in Intermediate Drafting. My intermediate year was by far the
most important to me because it was the year I decided that I really did want to major in

architecture, more specifically, interior design. Designing the house is interesting, but for

me, the real show begins in the interior where I could make people say wow. Thanks to

this subject, I can happily say who I am and what I am.

4. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and

demonstrated the talent over time?

If it were up to me, Id say Im an excellent architectural designer, especially in interior

design. I believe its an excellent skill as it will prove of great use in architectural

programs in universities such as Woodbury or Cal Poly. According to my teacher, , Mr.

Estrada, advanced students in drafting are already a year ahead of those in the

architectural programs, not just in knowing how to use the CAD software program, but

also what to use it for. We already know how to set up floor plans, framing, etc. However,

I wasnt always this good, I had a rough start, especially demonstrating my projects in a

professional way. Without a doubt, as years go by in drafting, I picked up more

experience and organizational skills, however, presenting my projects looked very

unprofessional and sloppy. Which is why I decided to take a Photoshop class for my 11th

grade year. Learning Photoshop turned out to be super useful not only in architectural

presentation boards, but also for some other classes like my AP US World History class. I

became so interested in interior design that I have almost become a perfectionist. More

often than not, I will get rid of an entire design if I feel it does not flow or relate to todays

modern architecture.
