General description
The RST is equipped with a dynamical slip ring with 3 hydraulic ports for PS slips up, signal and
slips set. The purpose of this ring is to apply oil from the PS manifold, through the (rotating) bowl
to the PS. This makes it possible to operate the RST and the PS without making or braking
connections for applying oil to the PS.
The RST is an integrated product. The RST can be used with a top drive without having
double functionality in the tool.
The top drive is used for drilling while the RST is used for slowly positioning the bit in any
desired direction for directional drilling
The RST is being used to prevent the pipe from getting stuck when handling casing.
The RST is hydraulically driven with 3 motors each with a pinion on a bull gear. The bowl
is mounted on a main bearing and is suited to fit conventional rig floor tools. The bowl is
always in National configuration. With an adapter ring its possible to convert to a smaller
size and/or limited number of other configurations.
Hydraulic motor description
The RST is equipped with 3 hydraulic Char-Lynn GEROLER-DISC-Ventil-motors 10-950,
max. 180 rpm cont. and 940,8 cc/rot. (57,4 inch/rot).

Safety
WARNING: It is not allowed to weld on Rotary support tables. Please contact
an authorized NOV repair facility.
WARNING: Ensure that all hydraulic lines are disconnected before ANY work
is performed on the RST. Its not always sufficient to isolate the hydraulic lines
by using a ball valve, as the hoses might function as an accumulator, which
could generate movement of the RST. The ball-valve is installed to ease
connecting and disconnecting the QD with pressure still on the line and for
disconnecting the RST from the power source.
WARNING: RSTs which have experienced wear or are found to have cracks
must be replaced or repaired by a NOV authorized repair facility.
WARNING: Only original NOV OEM parts must be used. RSTs are produced
from certified high strength steel and must not be welded in the field.
Improper welding can cause cracks and brittleness in heat-affected areas
which can result in dramatic weakening of the part and possible failure.
Repairs involving welding and/or machining should be performed only by a
NOV authorized repair facility. Using a RST that has been improperly welded
or repaired is dangerous.
NOTE: The RST does not lubricate the PS. See the PS manual for reference.

check the condition of the inline-filters on a regular basis. The filters are designed to
stand for at least 1 year service in conditions as required in this manual. However,
rig conditions may differ from these required conditions, or change by
contamination, incidents, repairs etc. It is recommended to conduct the check after
one month of service, after 6 months, and after one year service. Depending on the
results of the checks the interval between checks can be increased or decreased.

Operation
Normal usage
The RST-Rotary Support Table is designed to:
Rotate casing while running casing in order to prevent the casing from sticking (5 rpm)
Position the drill bit when directional drilling (0-5 rpm)
Generate back-up torque when making and braking connections, max. 45,000 ft/lbs
(61,000 Nm) depending on Power Slip or conventional tool and other parameters)
In a recessed part of the bowl of the RST, QDs are located flush with the RST top cover.
Procedure
1. The seals are greasing themselves with the hydraulic oil that is flowing through the slip
ring ports.
2. Connect QDs once the PS is installed in the RST.
3. When removing the PS from the RST the connections have to be removed.

CAUTION: When operating the RST for rotation clockwise it will rotate
the pipe and the pipe might be twisted in the hole. DO NOT stop
rotating COMBINED WITH short cutting both the A and B ports
(operate in free rotate mode) of the motor to the tank line UNLESS you
have engaged the counter clockwise lock OR the linear lock.
Otherwise all torsion energy, stored in the twisted pipe, will come free
and the pipe will quickly spin. This rotation can cause severe damage
to the tools and create an unacceptable unsafe situation.
Operation procedures
WARNING: The in-line flow control valve can be set in order to
prevent the pipe from spinning freely when switching into free
rotate mode This valve is NOT shop-set. If the valve is fully
closed, no free rotating is possible. If the valve is fully open,
uncontrolled back spinning is possible.
NOTE: The PS can only be pressurised when the linear lock is fully
engaged.
Function 1: ROTATION
The rotation of RST is achieved via two hydraulic valves, a proportional pressure reducing valve
for torque setting and a proportional directional flow control valve for direction and speed control.

Function 2: LOCK
The linear lock can be used:
1. For locking the RST in both directions
2. For locking the RST before using the PS21/30 (mandatory)
Operation 4: Locking with linear lock, while rotating in
either direction
STOPPING:
1. Engage linear lock
2. Decrease speed to <1rpm. At speed <1rpm linear lock will engage and lock RST in both
directions
3. Verify linear lock engaged indication

Description
The Castrol HyspinTM AWH-M hydraulic oil range of shear stable high viscosity index lubricants are based on the latest
stabilised zinc additive technology.
Application
Hyspin AWH-M contains a shear stable additive system which helps maintain the viscosity characteristics of
the product over a wide temperature range even during prolonged use and imparts a very low pour point which enables
the product to be used in very cold environments. It exhibits excellent corrosion and wear protection as well as
outstanding thermal and oxidative stability. In addition, Hyspin AWH-M has excellent hydrolytic stability and separates
rapidly from water contamination upon standing.
Applications include:
Outdoor equipment which are likely to operate in wide temperature ranges, such as machinery subjected to cold start
up conditions and high temperature continuous running. Examples include off-highway and marine applications.
Indoor manufacturing equipment that incorporates control systems requiring minimal viscosity change with
temperature. Examples include precision machine tools.
The Hyspin AWH-M range is fully compatible with elastomer materials commonly used for static and dynamic seals,
such as nitrile, silicone and fluorinated (e.g. Viton) polymers.
Hyspin AWH-M grades meet the requirements (for appropriate viscosity grade) of:
DIN 51524 Part 3
Cincinnati Lamb (Milacron) P 68-69-70
Denison (Parker Hannafin) HF-0
US Steel 126 & 127
Eaton (formerly Vickers) I-286-S & M-2950-S
Bosch Rexroth RE07075/RE90220
Advantages
High viscosity index and low pour point enables the product to be used over a wide temperature range, with good
shear stability which means no excessive loss in viscosity due to mechanical shearing.
Excellent anti-wear performance provides extended wear protection for hydraulic pumps. Reduced down time due to
unscheduled maintenance and savings from replacement part costs.
Excellent water separation and hydrolytic stability means reduced down time through prolonged lubricant life and
increased equipment reliability.
Good filterability gives a cleaner system with less frequent filter changes.
