The EPA's Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) is a dynamic hydrology and hydraulic simulation model used to model stormwater runoff, sewers, and drainage systems. It accounts for processes like rainfall, evaporation, infiltration and snowmelt to produce runoff from urban areas. It routes runoff through pipes, channels and storage units, and can estimate pollutant loads. SWMM is used worldwide for applications like designing drainage systems, sizing detention facilities, mapping floodplains, controlling combined sewer overflows, and evaluating low impact development practices and best management practices.
