Notes:
1. *These pumps are supplied with oil lubrication for bearing as a standard supply.
Rest of the pumps are with grease lubrication.
2. Pump models with suffix A are with improved efficiency than standard pump.
3. Pump models with suffix N are with NON DROOPING characteristics at the shut off head
side.

2.0 APPLICATION

CPHM pumps are used for general water supply schemes, sprinkler irrigation etc. for clean
and clear water without solid abrasive particles.

3.0 CONSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES

CPHM pumps are horizontal, radially split, single stage centrifugal end suction volute with
top centre line delivery branch. The pump feet are integrally cast with the delivery casing.
The bearing housing is fitted with a support foot. The pump shaft is supported by antifriction
bearings. The impeller is of an enclosed type.

3.1 Special features

In this pump, the complete driving unit can be withdrawn from the driving end without
disturbing suction or delivery pipe lines. Owing to its back pull design, the motor too remains
in position if spacer coupling is used.
4
CPHM pumps are as per ISO: 2858 and EN 22858 (DIN 24256)
This range meets the requirements of general water supply schemes and offers:
A- A large degree of standardized components.
B - Smaller inventory of spare parts due to modular design.
C- Ease of maintenance.
D- Very high service reliability.

4.8 Minimum Safe Flow Rate:

Minimum safe flow for CPHM pumps is 10% of best efficiency point capacity provided-
i) Temperature of liquid being pumped is less than 90C.
ii) Available NPSH is greater than NPSHR value by 0.5 metres at minimum safe flow
discharge.
iii) Vapour pressure of liquid is less than vapour pressure of water at all temperatures.
iv) Thermal capacity of liquid greater than thermal capacity of water.

1. The above hydrostatic test pressures are irrespective of material of pump casing. The
duration of hydrostatic test pressure shall be 2 minutes unless otherwise specified.

2. For stock order pumps, the maximum applicable test pressure for that pump size is
applied.

3. The above test pressures are applicable for pumps operating on suction pressure up to 2
Kg/cm (except for pumps marked with**mark). For pumps with ** mark, the above test
pressures are calculated without considering any suction pressure.

4. For higher suction pressures than those specified in note 3, hydrostatic test pressure
should be calculated as given below.

Hydro test pressure in (Kg/cm) =

1.5 (max. working pressure experienced by pump casing corresponding to
duty point impeller diameter, Kg/cm).
However, the hydrostatic test pressure for various pump casing materials should not exceed
the following limit.

Pump Casing Material Max. Test Pressure

Cast Iron, Bronze 24.0 Kg/cm

Cast Steel, Stainless Steel, 30.0 Kg/cm

10
5.0 CONSTRUCTION:

5.1 Delivery casing:

5.1.1 Casing details:

It has axial suction and top centerline delivery. It is designed for back pullout arrangement.
Casing walls are of ample cross section to resist pipe strain at suction and discharge without
distortion. 3 mm extra corrosion allowance on casing wall thickness is provided. Suction
nozzle is large enough to ensure favorable flow conditions to the impeller eye and low NPSH
requirement. Discharge nozzle is at top and feet are at the bottom of delivery casing so
residual pipe stresses are transferred to the base plate by the shortest possible route. The
harmful influence of pipe stress on wear ring clearances, bearings, shafts and shaft sleeves
is greatly eliminated. Refer Drg.No. S178100005-0.

Importance of top centre line discharge:

Liquid is cut at highest point. So practically no chances to form air pockets. Hence CPHM
pumps have got greater ability to handle vaporized liquids.
Residual pipe stresses are transferred to base by the shortest possible route and thus the
harmful influence on wear ring clearances, bearing, shaft, shaft seal etc. is avoided.
Layout of plant becomes simpler. It allows interchange of pumps without making costly
piping changes.

5.1.2 Flanges for CPHM pumps are drilled as per DIN: 2533 ND16 plain face unstock
finish as per standard. However flange drillings ANSI B 16.1, CL-125 and ANSI B 16.5, CL-
150 can be offered against order at extra cost.

NOTES:
1. Pump flange thickness and outer diameter may be more than specified by the standard in
case of unstocked finish flanges.

11
2. Pump flange thickness may be more than specified by the standard in case of stock
finished flanges.
3. For flange drilling standards other than DIN ND 16, pumps shall be supplied with plain
unstock finish flanges unless otherwise specified in O/A.

5.2 Impeller

Impeller of CPHM pumps are "enclosed" type. The hydraulic axial thrust in "enclosed

It is designed for the toughest service. The critical speed of the shaft is well above the
operating speed. Shaft is supported in antifriction bearings and is fully protected from the

14
liquid handled by the pump by means of fully enclosed gasket between the impeller nut-
impeller hub and shaft sleeve -impeller hub.

5.4.1 Stuffing box:

Change over from a mechanical seal arrangement to soft packing arrangement and vice
versa is made very simple with the help of few standardized conversion parts. Remachining
of the stuffing box is not necessary for standardized mechanical seals.

5.4.1.1 Gland Packing and Gasket Material:

As a standard scope pumps are supplied with following gasket and gland packing in
materials:
Gasket: Ferrolite NAM 37 or equivalent.
Gland packing: Champion 3116 or equivalent.
Note:
Against requirement, gland packing and gasket in PTFE can be supplied at extra cost.

5.4.1.2 Mechanical seal:

Pumps are offered with DIN seals or standard cartridge seals depending upon applications /
customers requirement.

5.4.3 Shaft sleeves:

It is a hook type shaft sleeve with one end free to expand with temperature variation.
For unit 5, 7, 9 and 11 rubber deflector is mounted on the shaft. For unit 11A, 11B,
13 pumps are with metallic deflectors.

5.5 Drive

5.5.1 Direct drive:

The pump can be driven by electric motor or engine.
5.5.2 Direction of rotation:
The direction of rotation is clockwise when viewed from coupling end.

5.6.1 Coupling Selection:

CPHM pumps are supplied with flexible jaw type spacer coupling as a standard scope.

Note:
1. Select the coupling as per kW and speed ratings from the chart of specific driving unit.
2. For the respective kW and rpm, selected coupling shall be applicable for frame sizes
mentioned against the respective couplings.
3. For selection of couplings for frame sizes other than mentioned in the charts, use the
following procedure.
(a) From kW and rpm ratings, find out the coupling from the chart for specific driving
unit.
(b) See that shaft diameter of motor does not exceed the maximum bore diameter
specified for selected coupling.
(c) If shaft diameter exceeds the maximum recommended bore for the coupling, select
the next higher coupling.

7.4 Performance Correction Table

Following guide lines are to be followed while quoting the performance of CPHM pumps
on the basis of IM curves.
1. For following sizes of CPHM pumps, corrections for efficiency as given below
should be applied in case of pumps with special material of constructions.
32/13, 40/13, 50/32, 65/26, 65/32, 80/16, 80/32, 100/20, 100/40, and 125/26.

2. Following efficiency corrections should be applied in case of quoted performance is

guaranteed as per API: 610. These corrections are over and above other
corrections applicable as the case may be.
No correction if efficiency is 30% or less.
Reduction by 1.0 point if efficiency is above 30% upto 50%.
Reduction by 1.5 points if efficiency is above 50% upto 80%.
Reduction by 2.0 points if efficiency is above 80%.

3. NPSH (R) shall be quoted by adding 0.5m to the specified NPSH(R) on the perfor-
mance (IM) curve . This correction shall be applicable for all the material of
constructions.
