I have jotted down these questions, for IFMR Analytics candidates to practise, based on my

judgement . Not sure which areas will they focus more on.
Same structure can be used to practise for most Analytics interviews.

Background reading :
Visit IFMR Trust website, and have a basic understanding of what their 4 subsidiaries
do.
Read the latest news about them.
Analytic concepts to prepare :
Regression (linear, logistic)
Cluster

Interview Questions :
Do you know about IFMR ? Which of the 4 subsidiaries do you think you can add more
value ? (Explain your reasons)
Tell me an Analytic project that you have worked on ? (Give structured
answers).Practise on atleast 3 different projects, and choose the one you are most
confident with.
Business problem -why it matters
Data used - Describe the data source and nature of data (time series data,
internal data , etc)
Analytics technique used -(regression, cluster, factor etc)
Analytics tool used (SPSS, R, Excel)
Your findings
Recommendation
Which languages do you program ? Do you know SQL ? Do you know R ?
For those who are not familiar with R -- say how you plan to learn R .
Many firms use SQL and R for Analytics. So if you know it is great . Else
come up with a plan of action and learn the basics in next 4 weeks, and
let the interviewer know -your commitment.
For those who know SQL, and R -- you have an edge. Ensure you have
brushed up your knowledge and can answer technical questions in phone
screen.
Give honest answers. If you say and are not able to prove during
coding test, it will undermine your credibility.
Which metrics would you use to measure the riskiness and profitability of a loan portfolio
?
Be familiar with banking metrics like delinquency, NPA , charge offs
Financial ratios : Profitability ratios, Capital ratios etc
Take any recent annual report of ICICI or Axis and browse through it (retail loan
segment) and understand which metrics they report on.
How would you build a model to predict the default rate on a loan portfolio ? (Google
search : Loan default prediction also known as PD models (probability of default).

Statistics : Hypothesis testing.& regression model related.

Be familiar with how to decide adequate sample size, T-test, Z-score , confidence
interval, statistical significance etc.
Regression model : R-square ,P-value kind of metrics.

You have to decide between two microfinance firms to invest Rs 10 crore of capital. One
microfinance provides loan to rural farmers and the other provides loans to urban lower
income group (Below poverty line) for their small businesses .
Both Microfinance institutions have been in business for 5 years and can give
you data.
What data, would you ask for ? what metrics would you focus on ? What analysis
would you do, to evaluate the two micro finance firms to decide where to invest.
Based on your analysis, IFMR has invested the Rs 10 crore of Capital . What metrics
should we monitor to measure the health of the portfolio ?
