Lecture, discussions, demonstrations, quizzes, projects, homework,


group critiques and individual consultation.

Methods of Evaluation:

1. Projects will be evaluated throughout the semester on the


following criteria: Understanding the objectives of the
assignments and working within those parameters.
Craftsmanship: strength of your technical execution of the
finished project. Visual organization: a demonstrated ability
to employ the design elements and principles in your work.

2. Timely completion of all assignments


You are expected to complete and turn in all projects on
time, any project turned in late will receive a deduction of 10
points for each day it is late. It will become an F after one
full week.

3. Participation in all Critiques


Group critiques will be a regular part of this course and
everyone is expected to participate in them actively.
Critiques are not personal criticism, but are an opportunity
for students to receive feedback on their work. They are also
designed to help students develop critical analysis and
strengthen their vocabulary of art terminology. Participation
in these discussions and critiques will affect your final grade.

4. Homework
In order to successfully complete this course, students are
expected to spend a minimum of threesix hours a week
outside of class time working on their projects.

Explanation of Letter Grades:

A= Outstanding. Student went above and beyond the basic


projects description. Student attended every class session,
was prepared with supplies and materials. Participated in-
group critiques/discussions, and shows a curiosity, risk
taking, conceptual and technical ability while keeping
project deadlines in mind.

B= Above average. Student adhered to project description


while showing some conceptual and technical ability. Good
participation in class discussions and student was present for
every class session with supplies and materials.

C= Average. Student completed assignments as stated in project


brief. Most work is completed on time and occasionally
participates in class critiques.

D= Below Average. Student does not complete projects on time.


Lacks effort and participation in class critiques. Does not

attend class with supplies and materials.

F= Student shows no effort to complete projects and is


frequently without supplies and materials. Shows little or no
effort to participate in class discussions.

Tools and Materials:

Each student will be supplied with the appropriate materials. The


student may wish to purchase their own sketchbook if they like
otherwise one can be made in class. The student may purchase any
other special materials not provided in class.

Listening to the instructor and using common sense can avoid most
accidents. I will go over any potential safety hazards at the
introduction of each project.

Attendance Policy:

1. All students should attend class every. Art is a practice-


based discipline and the learning process requires active
participation.
2. Arriving to class late or leaving early will count as of an
absence.
3. Absences are excused for illness with a doctors note or a
death in the family or other such serious situations.
4. Being unprepared for class by not having an assignment on
critique day or not having the appropriate materials to
perform in-class assignments will count as an absence.

Other Class Policies:

1. Please turn your phones to silent before you come into the
classroom. Cell phone interruptions will result in a loss of
participation points. Unless tied to instruction they should

not be out in class.

2. All students are expected to complete their own projects


independently. Any work completed non-independently will
be considered cheating and result in appropriate
disciplinary action.

3. We are operating in a shared space so please clean up


after yourself.

4. No food or drink is allowed in the classroom.

Classroom Expectations:

1. Be Respectful of art supplies, fellow students, and teacher.

2. Be Responsible. Be on time in seat with materials, Stay on task,


Finish work in a timely manner.

3. Be Safe. Follow class procedures, follow instructions, be careful


with tools, and clean up messes.
