Cycle 1.2 (Grade 2)

September 10th 2017,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In learning a second language, your child will face many challenges and you, as a
parent and I, as a teacher, must be there to help him or her. If at any time you are
unclear about an assignment or have questions about your child's work, please contact
me, preferably by email (mhgosselin@wqsb.qc.ca). Don't wait until there is a crisis.
Parents and teachers working together will insure that your child is a successful
learner!
Also, I will use the website http://fslgreatergatineau.weebly.com . On this website, you
will find rubrics, long range plans and the words we are using in class.

Details concerning your childs homework follow below and on the next page (it may
be subject to change):

Cycle 1.2 (Grade 2)

Every Friday, we will be assigning weekly homework, due on the following Friday.
The goal of the homework is for students to improve their French reading skills
(reading for 10 minutes) and reading comprehension skills (weekly sound sheet).

You will find attached the example of a completed copy of weekly homework (sound
sheet). The homework to be completed by your child will be sent home in their
agenda.

How to complete the sound sheet:

1. For the number 1, students read syllables aloud.

2. For number 2, students read words aloud. This exercise is to help your child
gain confidence in their ability to read out loud in French.
3. For the third exercise, students read the sentence out loud. They then choose
4 out of the 5 sentences to illustrate on the back of the page. This exercise is
to practice reading comprehension.
4. Number 4 is a little bonus challenge that will vary in difficulty each week.
Students answer the question.

Thank you for your support in this homework program. Every opportunity to
practice will help your child improve their French skills.

Thank you,

Madame Marie-Hlne Gosselin
