This is a mini-version of the University of the Philippines College Admission Test

or UPCAT. The Test consists of 4 parts in multiple choice type questions. The subject
areas are: Language Proficiency, Science, Mathematics and Reading Comprehension.

You should work as rapidly as you can without sacrificing accuracy. Do not stay
too long on any one item. To make the best use of your time, answer the easier
questions first and go back to the more difficult questions later.

If you are not sure of the correct answer to a question but know enough to
eliminate some of the options as wrong, you may decide to take your chance in
answering the item. Otherwise, you may choose to leave the item blank. Guessing may
not improve your score significantly because one fourth of your wrong answers will be
deducted from your score. On the other hand, there are no deductions for items left
blank.

Make sure you shade only ONE option for each item number. MULTIPLE
ANSWERS will be marked as WRONG ANSWERS and will be included in the fraction
deducted from your score.

When the start signal is given, work rapidly WITHOUT sacrificing accuracy.

[1] The Filipino comfort women were plucked from the unprotected peripheries of an
occupied Filipino society which did not expect to be treated well by the Japanese and
was, indeed, content to simply sit out the occupation, waiting for the Caucasian master
to come back and make things right again. The case of these brave women has,
ironically, given Philippine society, including its unheroic segments, a second chance at
heroism, decades after the war.
[2] Many of us still agonize over whether the Filipino women were abused as
repositories of trash semen with the sanction of the occupation forces high command
or not. Although the point is debatable, it is really beside the point. Whether a woman is
gang-raped by soldiers or used as a comfort woman (meaning, recruited at the behest of
the highest-ranking Japanese Army officers), her ordeal is neither more nor less real;
and her rapists are, by any name, war criminals. Indeed the most disciplined war
criminals are the most loathesome; in their case, discipline comes to mean inhumane,
even subhuman control.
[3] All victorious armies, we presume, take it to be their right to despoil the beaten
enemy. Whether their despoilation of Filipino women was isolated and opportunistic
rather than routine and systematic makes some difference, of course. But the difference
is really very small in its historical contextthe entire Filipino civilian population was
routinely and systematically subjugated, whatever it took.
[4] By forcing us to come to terms with the past, the comfort women who have
braved public ridicule have forced us to look straight at the beast which rears its hideous
face at the breast of every man or woman drunk with power. And we are forced to
concede, however grudgingly, that the powerless victim, as the Christians would put it,
has a better chance of keeping his/her humanity than the (wo)man who has power and
abuses it.

Ang banog ang itinuturing na pinakamalaking agila sa mundo at matatagpuan sa

mga isla ng Luzon, Samar, Leyte, at Mindanao. Tinatawag din itong haribon (haring
ibon), manaol (ang matandang tawag sa agila ng mga Tagalog at Bisaya), garuda, at
malabagook. Mayroon itong mangasul-ngasul na abuhing mata at taas na 1.021 metro
mula sa dulo ng tuka hanggang sa dulo ng buntot. Pumapangalawa naman ang bigat
nito sa Harpy Eagle na matatagpuan sa Timog Amerika.
Natagpuan ni John Whitehead ang banog noong 1896 sa Samar. Nakilala rin
itong monkey-eating-eagle dahil sa pagkain ng unggoy, bagaman kumakain din ito ng
butiki, musang, manok, paniki, usa, lawin, daga, at ahas.
Sa kasalukuyan, isa ito sa mga nanganganib na uri ng ibon dahil sa pagbabago
ng sistemang ekolohiko sa mga kagubatan. Nawawala ang nakamihasnan nitong
kaligiran at pagkain bunga ng malawakang pagtotroso at kaingin. Kaya naman, ipinasa
ang Republic Act No. 6147 upang protektahan ang banog laban sa mga nangangaso.
Noong 1990, sinasabing 30 hanggang 50 banog na lamang ang natitira sa mga
kabundukan sa Pilipinas. Marami pang hayop na matatagpuan sa Pilipinas ang
nanganganib ding mawala gaya ng malmag, ang uri ng tarsier na bantog ngayon sa
Bohol, at tamaraw na matatagpuan lamang sa Mindoro.
Sa pagtatangkang lunasan ang pagkaubos ng mga banog, ilang organisasyon,
tulad ng Philippine Eagle Foundation, ang nagsasagawa ng pagtatambal sa mga banog
upang magkaroon ng supling ang mga ito. Ilan sa mga banog na napisa sa ilalim ng
matagumpay na pag-aalaga ang bininyagang Pag-asa (1992), Pagkakaisa (1992), at
Pangarap (1999).
