Bible Reading: Mark 1:11; 9:7, Mathew 4:3, 6, Mathew 11:27

Jesus Is the Son of God

1. The Voice from Heaven at the baptism Mark 1:11; 9:7

God said You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased. God bore
witness to his beloved son, whom he loves so much and lays his authority and
command. Gods voice was proclaiming Gods word in Psalm 2:7 You are my Son;
today I have become your Father. Although Jesus was Gods son, as Gods servant
he had to suffer and die to carry out Gods work. The transfiguration in Mark 9:7, Jesus
had an authority given from God Listen to Him! The full sense includes obeying him.
When God is involved, the only true hearing is obedient hearing. Jesus does not
suddenly become a Son at the baptism. His sonship is merely reaffirmed and confirmed
by the voice: You are my Son. A Sonship that was unique and special. When we
listen to Gods voice (word) and do what he says, we confirmed our spiritual and moral
union with the Father through the Son Jesus Christ. When we follow Jesus ways we
become unique and firstfruits of believers to witness Gods love and blessings all over
the world.

2. Temptation by Satan Mathew 4:3, 6

If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. Verse 6 If
you are the Son of God, he said, throw yourself down. The devil even
confesses that Jesus is the Son of God. The devil is not casting doubt on Jesus divine
sonship, but is tempting him to use his supernatural powers as the Son of God for his
own ends. All attempts by the devil to compromise sonship loyalty, short cut
techniques to fulfil mission, pulling rank to misuse position and status as Son of God,
disobedience and lack of trust to his Fathers care and using hunger to ruin Jesus
ministry failed. The devil had no authority and power over the supreme ruler. His
assumption and perception of the Lords status as reflected in his temptation bid was a
shallow attempt of the Son of God, who was from the Father, tied to the Father in all
things done as the Son of God, glorified by God in all things done and what matters
most and not understood by the devil that the Father was always with Him, hence the
complete failure of the temptation. Here are the great lessons to be learned; the best is
yet to come because God has the most amazing plan for you. His blessings and
promised love for us to be successful is part of His covenant. Nevertheless, the devil will
always be the agent to tempt us as reflected above in the life of Jesus that could ruin
our God-given plan for the future. Prayers and fasting are the tools to equip us for
mission to witness Jesus the Son of God in all aspects of our life.

3. Jesus Himself - Mathew 11:27

Jesus himself said that All things have been committed to me by my Father.
No-one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father
except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. The Lord
was committed all authority from the Father and those who are weary and burdened,
come to the Son and would definitely be saved. The verse provides great insight into
Jesus own self-understanding as Son. The full authority of heaven and earth given is
only between the Father and Son. This is a remarkable verse. No one knows the Father,
not even Moses or the prophets, as Jesus does. He is the Son in an exclusive sense. He
claims the knowledge of all things. He alone truly knows the Father and to him alone
has been given the authority to reveal the Father to others. Jesus said in Mathew
14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father
except through me. God the Father has given Jesus the supreme power over
everything to equip and qualify Him for His work as Mediator that include the
forgiveness of sins, nature, and the world as a whole that was reflected in Jesus
miracles.

Amen
