Executive Summary

I did internship at Goldsheff International Company, Marketing group, Lahore. This report

includes all the details about my working there. During the internship I got the chance to

analyze and learn about the procedures of the company. I learned the practical aspects of

businesses and corporate world. This report includes the details about the company, my

personal working and the functions and responsibilities I performed there. I got the chance to

work in the marketing field in excessive detail.

1. ISO 14001 certification

In 2004 Goldsheff was given the ISO 14001 certification. This was the very first

certification received by Goldsheff . ISO 14001. ISO 14001 sets out the criteria for an

Environmental Management System maps out a framework that a company or

organization can follow to set up an effective EMS.

2. ISO 9001 certification

In 2008 Goldsheff was given the ISO 9001 certification. "ISO 9001 Certified" means

an organization has met the requirements in ISO9001. It defines an ISO 9000 Quality

expectations and delivering customer satisfaction so you must pay attention to the

customer.

Personal Work Experience

Personal Working

I worked in the company for 8 weeks in which I had to perform certain activities on

the basis of the work provided to me on weekly basis. I learned about the skills that

are needed to be successful in corporate culture. I got the chance to experience some

of the marketing activities in detail. Before this internship for me marketing was all

about sales and promotion but it proved to be much more than this. Following are the

work activities provided on weekly basis.

Week # 1

Introduction Week

After getting selected as a part of the company for the internship I was introduced to

the whole organization. My supervisor guided me the complete situation about the

company. Before starting your work in any organization the most important work is to

know about the company in detail.

Week # 2

Working Based On Market Observation

In the second week I was asked to observe all the products and their market analysis.

The reason my supervisor gave me for performing this task was that in order to

preform marketing for these nutraceuticals I must know the complete details about

them involving the dosage and the reason why these pills are taken by a common

man.

The medicines are segmented in to 3 categories

Progressive Division:

This division is based on 8 different medicines which are formulated

for the body problems, which cannot be solved by the normal medicines.

Aggressive Division:

This segment of the medicines is for the high stamina increase, for such

purposes 12 different medicines were made.

Eagle Division:

This segment is based on 6 different medicines which are a blend of different

vitamins, calcium and proteins.

After observing the market segmentations following results were deducted

Market size: These products are used by people of all age and both the genders.

Market Growth Rate: As this market is a niche market therefore its growth rate is

continuously increasing.

Market Barriers: The only barrier which I found was the lack of information and

knowledge in a normal citizen about these products.

Week #3

Interaction With Customers

In order to know about the actual needs and wants of the customer my supervisor and

I went to some doctors who were the already existing bridge between the customers

(patients) and the company.

We went to some of the renowned doctors of Lahore who already were selling our

nutraceuticals tablets to the customers. I personally took interviews and asked them

about the needs and wants of the customers.

Different doctors had different views w.r.t to the customers living in those particular

areas. But some common problems which were observed were as follows:

1. People have lack of knowledge about these pills

2. Those who are aware of the product feel hesitated while using these products

for the first time

Dr. Mansoor Qureshi, one of the customer of the company, was highly satisfied by the

outcome of these medicines and told us that the customers who are already using this

product are highly satisfied and happy by using these products.

While another doctor, Doctor Shaukat Razzaq, claimed that customers are not

interested in buying these products because of the lack of advertisements and

information about the products. They are not willing to take the risk of using a brand

new product of which they are publically un aware.

Week # 4

Feed Back

After meeting top 10 doctors who were further selling our product, the next task that

was assigned to me was to present the data Ive collected from those meetings in a

power point presentation in front of my supervisor along with 3 other senior members

of the company in order to devise a brand new scheme.

For that I had to collect some further data in order to present the whole information in

a new way. I again went to some of the doctors and asked them to provide me the

contacts of some of the users of those medicines. I got the chance to meet some of the

consumers and these were the views

One of them said: The medicine is highly effective. I was suffering from back ache

for a very long time and when I went to the doctor and he prescribed me to use this

medicine. And I experienced a remarkable recovery.

Similarly I met many other consumers in order to collect their point of view about the

product and after gathering the data the whole week I finally was able to present the

whole presentation in front of my senior colleagues. The presentation was highly

successful and all my seniors were impressed. The major points that I presented were

as follows:

1. Major work on our advertisements

2. Change in packaging

3. Some ground promotions

4. Direct interaction with the customers

5. Some exciting offers

6. Visiting the distant areas and guiding people about the product

So the superiors found these points valid and decided to work on them in detail

Week # 5

Implementations On The Observations

Company has started working on change in their packaging and the time they started

work was the time I was working there on my internship. My supervisor asked me to

give my suggestions on the packaging to make it more attractive. The current

packaging are dull and boring (Image 1,2 and 3). So they decided to change the color

scheme of the packing and the logo. The color scheme was also changed and some art

work was also changed. This was a new experience for me as I was not aware about

such situation to occur in a work enviourment

So the new packaging is being published these days and will be out soon.

After the packaging the next main thing was advertisement on certain billboards and

small boards all over Lahore for the promotion. As this activity was going to be

performed for the first time therefore a complete unique and highly attractive design

was to be made. For that some ad agencies were contacted to provide an out standing

poster.

The posters are currently present at different billboards of Lahore.

Later this week Eid-Ul-Fitr Vacations were given.

Week # 6

Group Task

The next task that was assigned to me was to help a group of marketers in promotions

and advertisement. That was the first time I was given a group task which helped me

learn some new activities as a group. The idea about the word Group is completely

different from what Ive been experiencing throughout my life. These groups are

more diverse and are more advanced and technical.

So the activity that was assigned to us was to visit certain doctors who were not aware

of our medicines. We provided them free samples and some profitable incentives to

keep our medicines at their hospitals and private clinics. Moreover we went to

different backward areas and provided free samples to the people.

The response for those activities was highly Impressive as a large number of retailers

and consumers were interested in buying those pills and medicines.

Moreover it was my first experience to performing some sales activities for the

marketing carrer. Even though I was not in the head light but still I keenly observed

all the stratigies used by my team mates.

At my sixth week two new internees were appointed to the company and I had a

chance to lead the further tasks as a group leader. I had to maintain all the qualities

that should lie in a leader. I had to introduce them to the company the work

enviourment, the culture of the organization etc. In other words I had to do everything

that was done for me in the initial week.

The problem that occurred in that group was that the group which was formed was

quiet diverse. The diversity exisited in the Genders and difference in the areas from

which they came. That was also one of the most important points which I observed

that people from different areas have to work together as a team so a leader should

maintain the ability to guide his juniors and keep the team united.

Week # 7

Finishing Tasks

For my last week, There was no such workload so I had to complete all the remaining

tasks that were yet to be completed. I had to complete a work report about the work

experience I performed in that organization. So by the end of the week I was provided

my certificate and my internship duration was completed.

Over All Experience

The over all experience was highly fascinating and I learned many things in that

envioournment out of which some are as follows

Working away from my own city: As a residential of Rawalpindi, I had to stay

away from my home for 2 months in which I learned how to survive in a situation

when an individual has to come out of his comfort zone.

Team work: A never like before experience to work in a team on an organizational

level.

Time Management: The biggest problem for me was to manage the time as I had

to stay in the organization for a fixed period of time and I had to perform all the

tasks properly.

Leading: A leader has to be responsible. Got a chance to experience this activity

for the first time and though it was tough but it was overall exciting

Punctuality: Unlike the lack of punctuality showed in our normal routine life, I

had to learn to maintain my regularity of going to the work on daily basis what

ever the situation is. According to me this is by far the most important thing that I

have learned because in a work enviourment you have to stay regular and updated

to the work given to you.

Plan and Organize: The most important task that I learned during my internship

was that I had to plan my tasks and keep every thing organized which was initially

tough for me but then I managed it.

Verbal communication: It was one of my most efficient strength that I was able to

communicate verbally with all of my colleagues.

Some other points: In addition to all of the above mentioned points I also learned

some major organizational behaviors such as how to maintain decorum in an

organization and what should be an appropriate dress code for any organization

SWOT Analysis

SWOT analysiss main function is to detect the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities

and threats for a certain organization

As Goldsheff is covering a niche market therefore there are less number of strengths

weaknesses opportunities and threats but the ones which exsist are stated as follows:

Strengths:

Strengths refer to those activities that a company performs better than its competitors.

Strength basically means the core competency of the company.

The following points are companys strengths:

Customer Loyality:

The biggest strength for any organization is its customers loyality. Goldsheff

makes sure that the customers once connected are forever connected. For that the

company keeps on giving incentives and amazing offers to its customers. The

doctors who keep the medicines are sometimes sent on international workshops

and on a complete expense paid vacations.

Supply Chain:

A strong supply chain helps Goldsheff Intl. obtain the right resources from

suppliers and delivery the right product to customers in a timely manner.

Goldsheff has a very wide range of Nutraceutical for all ages and for all kinds of

problems

Niche Market

In Pakistan, such Nutraceutical firms are less in number which decreases the

number of competitiors and increases the chances of sales.

Weakness:

Weaknesses are the activities that the firm does not do well or the resource it needs is

not possessed by that firm. It also includes the factors that cause losses, hardships,

disputes and complaints for a business.

Following are the weaknesses:

Lack of Knowledge:

People wont use the product unless they know about it. Thats one of the problem

Goldsheff is facing in Pakistan. People are unaware of the product and the

possible advantages it can provide to people.

Lack of Publicity:

The reason the people dont know about these medicines is that people only go for

those products which are publicated on televisions and boards.

Opportunities:

Opportunities are the elements that the project could exploit to its advantage

Innovations:

A large number of innovations can be brought within the organization and new

products can be introduced which can make Goldsheff a leading company of

country. Greater innovation can help to produce unique products and services that

meet customers need.

New Markets:

New markets allow Goldsheff Intl. to expand their business and diversify their

portfolio of products and services.

Threats:

Threats are the elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business

or project in the future

Bad Economy:

A bad economy can hurt Goldsheff intl. business by decreasing the number of

potential customers.

International Competition:

International competitors are numerous and difficult to combat, because they can

have many competitive advantages that give them an advantage over Goldsheff

intl.

Government:

Changes to government rules and regulations can negatively affect Goldsheff intl.

Porter Five Forces Analysis

Porter five forces analysis is a framework to analyze level of competition within an

industry and business strategy development. Gold sheff can easily review this analysis

on following basis:

1. Threat of new entrants

Profitable markets that yield high returns will attract new firms. This results in many

new entrants, which eventually will decrease profitability for all firms in the industry.

Till now there is a very small number of firms that are going for the nutraceuticals but

now slowly and gradually the market size is increasing.

2. Threat of substitute products or services

The existence of products outside of the realm of the common product boundaries

increases the propensity of customers to switch to alternatives. The biggest alternate

for nutraceuticals is pharmaceuticals, there fore they are a huge threat to this industry.

3. Bargaining power of customers (buyers)

The bargaining power of customers is also described as the market of outputs: the

ability of customers to put the firm under pressure, which also affects the customer's

sensitivity to price changes. Firms can take measures to reduce buyer power, such as

implementing a loyalty program. The doctors to which Goldsheff is providing their

medicines can pressurize them but the company has already taken one step earlier by

providing them incentives and bonuses.

4. Bargaining power of suppliers

The bargaining power of suppliers is also described as the market of inputs. Suppliers

of raw materials, components, labor, and services (such as expertise) to the firm can

be a source of power over the firm when there are few substitutes. Goldsheff has an

extensive end from this type of problem as the suppliers are highly cooperative.

5. Intensity of competitive rivalry

For most industries the intensity of competitive rivalry is the major determinant of the

competitiveness of the industry. Goldsheff doesnt have much competitors therefore

Conclusion and Recommendation

Goldsheff international company is doing an amazing job but there is always a room

for improvement for any organization. Following are some of the recommendations I

would like to give to Goldsheff international:

First of all, Goldsheff international should decentralize its system of decision

making because managers at low level are not authorized to make decisions

about even minor things.

It should diversify in other industries as this industry is matured and no future

growth is expected in this sector.

It should introduce career development programs for employees. There should

be proper career planning of employee and improve its efficiency but also

results in better and improved output for the organization.

It should start taking some serious action for its major advertisement.

I have completed my internship at Goldsheff International Company, Marketing

Group, Lahore for six weeks. I have observed that the working environment of FFC is

very friendly and cooperative. Employees are committed and hard working.

I can say that I benefited from my internship program in a number of ways:

Career-wise, the internship program undoubtedly enriched my curriculum vitae (CV).

Also having gotten a chance to interact with a number of employees, I gained insight

on how to shape my career towards a successful job in the near future. I have learned

company policies and procedures and observed how these things are made and where

improvements are needed

To conclude, I can state that my internship at Goldsheff was a rewarding experience

and provided me with some new perspectives that I did not come across during my

studies.
