Jaundice refers to the yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes caused by the high level of

pigment bilirubin in the body. It is the most common of all liver disorders that results from an
obstruction in the bile duct or the loss of function of the bile producing liver cells. Bile is a vital
digestive fluid that is essential for proper nutrition. If the bile is prevented from entering the
intestines there is an increase in gases.

Causes of Jaundice
The various causes of jaundice are:

Hemolytic anemia
Blockage in the bile ducts
Acute hepatitis
Pancreatic cancer
Alcoholic liver disease

Home Remedies of Jaundice

The juice of bitter luffa (karvi torai) is


regarded as an effective home remedy
against jaundice. It can be obtained by
pounding and squeezing through cloth. The
juice obtained should be placed on the palm
and drawn through the nostrils. This is one of
the effective home remedies for jaundice.

Another effective home remedy for


jaundice is the green leaves of radish. The leaves should be pounded and their juices extracted
through cloth. One pound of this juice daily is recommended.

Diet for Jaundice - Mash one ripe banana with one tablespoon of honey and eat it twice a day.

High intake of limejuice is highly beneficial.

Take one glass of sugarcane juice and half a lemon twice daily. This is very good and effective
home remedy for jaundice.

Half-cup beetroot juice with half a lemon squeezed jaundice cure in short period.

Take one pinch of black pepper mixed in buttermilk for at least 7 days.

Carrot juice is highly beneficial for the jaundice patients. Good Home Remedy for Jaundice.
Prune is one of the most favorable fruits for the patients suffering from jaundice.

Jaundice remedy - take half teaspoon of ginger juice with one teaspoon of fresh lime and mint.

Drinking tomato juice with a pinch of salt early in the morning is highly beneficial. Good home
remedies for jaundice.

4 grams of Indian gooseberry taken with water thrice a day for at least 15-20 days cures all liver
problems. This is also useful diet for jaundice.

Boil 1 cup of water and add 8-10 lemon leaves. Cover and leave for 5-6 minutes. Drink the
solution for 4-5 days for jaundice treatment. This is also useful natural remedy for jaundice.

Minerals like calcium and iron should be included in the diet in good amounts.

In one cup of boiling water add 2 teaspoons of oregano and leave for 10 minutes. Filter and drink
this solution. This is a very effective natural remedy for jaundice.

Daily intake of pinch of roasted alum with buttermilk, twice or thrice a day jaundice treatment.

Oils, fried foods, butter, turmeric, spicy food, pickles and sour products should be avoided.

Have a glass of bitter gourd juice (karela) every morning for short shot cure. People who don't
have juice maker, boil karela till karela is no longer bitter and have the boiled juice left behind
which should be very bitter.
