What is pollution?
- Pollution is when water, air or land becomes very dirty. Pollution

can come in 4 different types effecting different types of areas in
the world.

Types of Pollution
Air Pollution
- affects the air
- is a major problem effecting the entire world especially
when we start burning forests.
Causes of Air Pollution

1. Smoke from chimneys of factories.
2. Smoke from Vehicles.
3. Smoke from burning of fire.
Prevention of Air Pollution

1. We should share vehicles for going to office.
2. We should get a regular pollution check of our vehicle.
3. We should use a bicycle for going to near by places.
4. Chimneys of factories should be fitted with proper filters to
prevent smokes from coming out and effect atmosphere.
Water Pollution
- affects the water and marine life.
Causes of Water Pollution

1. Factories throw their waste in water bodies.
2. People bath and wash clothes in water bodies.
3. Some oil ships drown in water which hardly effects the aquatic
life.
4. Smoke from vehicles lets the river to dry.
Prevention of Air Pollution
1. Factories should not throw their waste in water bodies.
2. People should not bath and wash clothes in rivers or lakes.
3. People should not take their animals to take bath in rivers or
lakes.
Land Pollution
- Affects the land destroying life and the environment.
Causes of Land Pollution

1. Increase in urbanization
2. Increase in agricultural land.
3. Domestic waste
4. Agricultural activities
5. Industrial activities.
Prevention of Land Pollution
1. encourage organic farming

2. proper garbage disposal
3. recycle garbage
4. reduce use of herbicides and pesticides
5. Avoid overpackaged items
6. efficient utilization of resources and reducing wastage
Noise Pollution
- affects our hearing
Causes of Noise Pollution

1. Jet planes.
2. Loud speakers and other loud speaking things.
3. Cinema halls.
4. Factories
5. Road traffic

1. We should not use loud speakers
2. Factories should be made out of the city.
3. There should be not more noise making vehicles on the roads.

Causes of Land Pollution
Increase in urbanization. Construction uses up forestland. More constructions

means increase in demand for raw materials like timber. This leads to the
exploitation and destruction of forests. There is more demand for water. Reservoirs
are built leading to the loss of land.
Increase in agricultural land. As the human population grew there was a greater
demand for food. This caused more land allocated to agriculture. Forests were cut
down for this purpose.
Domestic waste. Every single day, tons and tons of domestic waste is dumped
ranging from huge pieces of rubbish such as unused refrigerator to fish bones. If all
these wastes are not disposed of properly, the damage they can do to the
environment and humankind can be devastating. While waste collected from
homes, offices and industries may be recycled or burnt in incinerators, a large
amount of rubbish is neither burnt nor recycled but is left in certain areas marked
as dumping grounds. We throw away more things today and there is an increase in
the quantity of solid waste. This has given rise to problems as new dumping
grounds have to be found.
Agricultural activities. Besides domestic waste, pesticides and herbicides used by

farmers to increase crop yields also pollute the land when they are washed into the
soil.
Industrial activities. Industrial activities also are a contributing factor to land

pollution. For example, in open cast mining, huge holes are dug in the ground and
these form dangerously deep mining pools. Heaps of mining waste are left behind
and these waste often contain several poisonous substances that will contaminate
the soil.
Pollution sources include plastics factories, chemical plants, oil refineries, nuclear
waste disposal activity, large animal farms, coal-fired power plants, metals
production factories and other heavy industry.

Water covers 70% of the earth and only 3% of fresh water. 1%

of fresh water and 2% of frozen fresh water. Pollution is a major
cause to life. It impacts on marine life and is a major impact to
life in the whole world.
Subsequently, we are slowly but surely harming our planet to

the point where organisms are dying off, our drinking water has
become greatly affected.
In order to combat water pollution, we must understand the

problems and become part of solution
- needs to be aware
