Human factors have a large impact on workplace safety. To improve safety performance, one must understand human psychology, behavior, and motivations. Effectively managing human elements requires changing minds through increased knowledge, changing hearts through deepened emotion, and changing actions through altered behavior. The basic ingredients for effective management are clear performance targets, reasonable yet challenging targets, adequate resources, timely feedback, and high workforce involvement.
