    What is Summarizing

    A summary is a restatement of someone else's words in your own words.


    There are many different kinds of summaries, and they vary according to the
    degree to which you interpret or analyze the source. However, for all types
    of summary, the writer is responsible for generally stating, in his or her own
    words, the main information or argument of another writer.
    Summarizing is also a good study skill. Often You must read, understand
    and remember information from several textbook chapters.
    When you write summaries of your reading ? the summaries can help you
    review for examinations
    How to Summarize
     You must, Read the original passage or text very carefully.
     Use a pencil to highlight or underline what you take to be the main point
    of the original text, or make notes in the margins or on another sheet of
    paper.
     If you're summarizing an entire essay, outline the writer's argument.
     Now tell your audience what the original source argued.
    How a good Summary
     Includes the main ideas and the major supporting points of what you
    have read
     does not include minor details or repeated details
     does not include your own ideas or opinions
     is much shorter than the original

    Why summarize?
    The process of summarizing enables you to grasp the original text better, and the
    result shows the reader that you understand it as well. In addition to this, the
    knowledge you gained by summarizing makes it possible for you to analyze and
    critique the original text.
    how do we skim
    1. you must read the first carefully. writers ussually their topics or ideas right at
    the beginning.
    2. if the text is long , you may also read the second paragraph.
    3. next you should look the first sentence of each paragraph, maybe read a few
    words in the middle and note if there a lots of names or dates.
    4. skip some paragraph if the dont seem important.
    5 and the last , you should read the last paragraph more carefully because writers
    may summarize the important points at the end.
