Old Folks

The class was excited and chatty as they boarded the bus for a field trip to the old folks' home. Upon arriving, the students enthusiastically greeted and sang songs for the elderly residents. The students and residents enjoyed sharing gifts and spending time together, bringing smiles and joy to all. It was an emotionally meaningful experience that taught the students compassion.

TOpic: A Visit to Old Folks Home II

“Pupils, line up in an orderly manner before you


board the bus!” the teacher reminded Jane and her fellow
classmates as they moved towards the
bus. Overwhelmed with joy, they chatted merrily as
they boarded the bus. They were on a learning journey
to the old folks’ home. The children were extremely
excited as none of them had been there before. Jane and
her classmates tried to contain their excitement but it
was futile. They were reminded numerous times to be
quiet.

There was a song in every heart, cheerfulness in


every face and a spring in every step as the pupils
alighted and the pupils in twos, headed toward the old
folks’ home.

Upon entering the old folks’ home, the pupils


immediately began chatting with the elderly as the minutes
ticked by. Voices of the class as cheery as a sunbeam
filled the old folks’ home with popular, local
songs. Beaming with gratitude, the elderly thanked
some pupils who had showered them with handmade gifts.

It was a very moving experience with the residents of


the old folks’ home. As the pupils departed the old folks’
home reluctantly, they waved and shouted hearty
goodbyes to its residents. They had a memorable
experience – one which taught them compassion
andemphathy.

The short time with the old folks had been a meaningful
experience for the entire class. What made the outing to
the old folks’ homeheartwarming were the broad smiles
and the happy chatter they had brought forth to its
residents.
