DISCUSSION

1. The experiment of Fiber Optic Termination Using SC Connector is to learned build the cable
using the termination tools such as fiber optic cable single mode, SC connector single mode,
cable stripper, Kevlar scissor, crimping tool and permanent marker.

2. As the result of the construction the cable is when test using light phone camera the light
will be flow using fiber optic cable. Therefore the fiber optic cable is used to carry the data
using the light from one to another place.
3. Optical fibers carry data that has been encoded into light pulses, keeping the beam of light
together so no information is lost. This data can be computational information sent from one
computer to another, video feed from inside someone’s body during laparoscopic surgery or
the cable television signal coming to your home.

4. Before connected the fiber cable into SC connector the cable need to clean first using the
alcoholic liquids.

5. Any contamination in the fiber connection can cause failure of the component or failure of
the whole system. Even microscopic dust particles can cause a variety of problems for optical
connections. A particle that partially or completely blocks the core generates strong back
reflections, which can cause instability in the laser system. Dust particles trapped between two
fiber faces can scratch the glass surfaces. Even if a particle is only situated on the cladding or
the edge of the end face, it can cause an air gap or misalignment between the fiber cores which
significantly degrades the optical signal.
6. The weakness of this experiment is the diameter of the cable is so thin. That why when
cutting the cable jacket the fiber inside of the cable is also disconnected. Therefore it has to be
done carefully.

CONCLUSION
In the end experiment, student learn about how to terminate fiber optic cable with SC
connector. An optical fiber cable, also known as fiber optic cable, is an assembly similar to
an electrical cable, but containing one or more optical fibers that are used to carry light. The
optical fiber elements are typically individually coated with plastic layers and contained in a
protective tube suitable for the environment where the cable will be deployed. Different types
of cable are used for different applications, for example long distance telecommunication, or
providing a high-speed data connection between different parts of a building. The equipment
we have use is fiber optic cable, sc connector single mode, fiber optic stripper, Kevlar scissor,
fiber optic crimping tool and permanent marker. Actually fiber optic are used mainly for digital
audio connections between devices.
