As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

 Identify the components of the Holy Rosary – ie, 10 beads makes a decade, on each bead we pray a Hail
Mary.
 Complete a set of Rosary beads
 Create an image which appropriately reflects the verse of the Hail Mary.
Teacher’s Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for students at educational risk:
(include Teacher Witness) Choose One from:

 Experience of praying the Rosary and Church Sensory impaired (hearing) student will be buddied
 Mat area tidy and welcoming with class member. Written handouts for the Rosary
 Paper for mural planning bead construction provided. Instructions for mural
 Write verses of the Hail Mary on white board planning written on the whiteboard.
 Beads and Crosses for Rosary beads
 String Student with physical disability (poor fine motor skills)
 Instruction sheet for the Rosary Bead making will be given larger beads to work with and assisted
by the teacher.
 Scissors/Markers

11.00 Students will be focusing on the significance of praying to Mary. where they will be introduced.
Students will plan out a class mural for the verses of the Hail Mary which
will be worked on throughout the term.
Students will commence making their own Rosary Beads

 Class form a circle on the mat

 Students wishing to present prayers for their own or other
intentions may do so

 Who can tell me why Mary is so important?
 Who can explain what is meant by the Assumption of Mary?
 Why do Catholics pray to Mary?
 What is so very special about prayers given to Holy Mary?

After class discussion students are divided into two groups.

Group 1 commences on planning mural images for the verses of Hail


Mary (each student creates their own image for each verse) A class vote
will be conducted on the most suitable image for the mural

 Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with Thee

 Blessed art thou amongst women

 Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus

 Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now

 At the hour of our death – Amen

(Students are to write the verse above the image they create)

Group 2 commences creating their individual Rosary Beads.

 After 20 minutes groups swap over


Play classical music in the classroom whilst the students work to create a
peaceful classroom environment; as a reminder that students are
working to honour Mother Mary and God.

11.45 Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

 Students are asked to stop what they are doing and pack away.
 All completed plans for the Hail Mary mural are bought to the
front of the class
 Rosary beads are kept to one side of the classroom to be
completed during the week.
 Students can go back to their desks

 Students get ready for library


 Get library bags and books
