2. Why some Fast Ethernet ports on the switches are are up and others are down?

Answer: The Fast Ethernet ports are up when cables are connected to the ports unless they
were manually shutdown by the administrators. Otherwise, the ports would be down.

3. What could prevent a ping from being sent between the PCs?
Answer: To prevent ping there are several steps –
 connecting the switch with cross over cable
 connecting two pcs with straight through cable through directly
 the firewall on the pc should be turned on
