“Climate Change presented strong evidence that global warming over the last century was
largely a result of human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuel, deforestation and the
conversion of lands for agricultural use."

increased sea surface temperature. Bleaching occurs when prolonged increased sea temperatures
cause a breakdown in the relationship between the corals and their symbiotic zooxanthellae

Analysis (How does this source support the Point to Prove?):
This article proves the point that global warming is contributing to the death of coral reefs
and is connected to human activity. “Climate Change presented strong evidence that global
warming over the last century was largely a result of human activity, such as the burning of fossil
fuel, deforestation and the conversion of lands for agricultural use” and is causing an increase of
temperature. The article also states that ever decade it is becoming warmer. The cause of the
rising temperature is warming the oceans to a point the coral reefs cannot thrive in.
The effects of the death of our coral reefs are having a major impact on many marine lives.
Two main aspects will be changed because of the coral reef loss. Environment and food supply
for the marine life will be jeopardized. Another effect of the warming of waters will trigger
animals to migrate based on their temperature tolerance. The process that corals go through
when they are dying is called ‘bleaching’, "Possibly one of the greatest threats facing corals,
however, is that of bleaching as a result of increased sea surface temperature. Bleaching occurs
when prolonged increased sea temperatures cause a breakdown in the relationship between the
corals and their symbiotic zooxanthellae (algae)."Many corals cannot be revived when they are
bleached.
Many scientist believe that "the rate of change of climatic conditions is potentially beyond
the capacity of coral reefs to adapt and recover." This means that at the rate that humans are
going with pollution that the corals tolerance are not built for the changes that we are putting
them through.

"But teachers and parents forget that teenage is the time when kids begin to express their
individuality. "

children, something that needs to be ‘cured’ and not understood."
"Conformity does give results in the shape of well-adjusted kids, but at the cost of passionate,

This article talks about how teachers create an environment that calls for conformity, by
teaching kids to sit down, be quiet and to not challenge the rules. To many teachers and parents
the ideal student and child is the one who sites down, stays quiet. The main point of the article is
that “American Schools Are Failing Nonconformist Kids”. Another point in this article is that
“students are taught to become successful executives and agreeable members of society.”
The article also talks about how when teenagers have expressive outbursts we label that as
hyperactivity and that, "teachers and parents forget that teenage is the time when kids begin to
express their individuality. " We try and cure the ones who don’t conform and those who try to
challenge the rules of society. Those who express their selves though creative outbursts helps
express their individuality.
And lastly this article talks about how many kids form a young age are told they have
ADHD and they need to take medicine if they want to succeed. I can relate to this part of the
article because as a child I was told to take medicine so I could sit still and conform to the
classroom norms.

“Don’t be tyrannized by public opinion, don’t get trapped in an echo chamber.”
“Open-mindedness, critical thinking, and debate are essential to discovering the truth.”
“Think for Yourself.”
“It’s all-too-easy to allow your views and outlook to be shaped by dominant opinion on your
campus or in the broader academic culture.”
This is an essay written by college professors to their students telling them to, “think for
yourself.” The basic summary of this essay is to stay away from groupthink. Groupthink is the
act of conforming to a group for harmony and to not challenge the opinions of the masses. These
professors talk about how thinking for yourself can be very challenging at times. It is okay to
question the dominant views of society and to stick and stand up for what you believe in.
When you’re at school, “It’s all-too-easy to allow your views and outlook to be shaped by
the dominant opinion on your campus or in the broader academic culture.” By challenging the
social norms and refusing to conform to beliefs that you don't believe in can help you and others
stay away from conformism and groupthink, and to help you express yourself individually. By
not conforming, it helps other know that the dominant view is not the only view or only right
view.

independently think for themselves.”
“Societies have believed that higher education is necessary for success, but the opposite is true
with the modern version of education. For instance, most of the high-tech companies were
created by high school dropouts.”
This article talks about ho schools and the curriculum is so close minded and keeps us in
such a box that in the end, “Students are trained to only strive for self-limiting ‘reachable goals.”
Many people in today’s society believe that the more education you have the more qualified you
for a job over someone else when that just simply isn’t the case. There is a level of education that
you should have, however, todays jobs are not just based off of level of education anymore. One
of the major things that you need besides a degree is creativity; “Societies have believed that
higher education is necessary for success, but the opposite is true with the modern version of
education. For instance, most of the high-tech companies were created by high school dropouts.”
This quote is great in showing that creativity is necessary in succeeding outside of school and
that we need to “Realize that creative, independent, free thought is more important than anything
they can learn at any university.” So many students come out from college thinking that the
world is going to be exactly like school and then harsh reality hits and they find themselves lost;

In this ted talk a man named Peter kenny talks about how teaching can be any amazing
thing. Teachers can change minds and inspire many people. Teachers have the power to inspire
generations of people to change society. Peter also talks about how there are good school and
then there are the ones that only show you “the Power of nonconformity” which is very little
power. In today’s society “Good education can cost a lot and a bad education can cost a
generation” and because of this not many kids can go to good schools that teach you to think
outside of the box but rather to stay in them; “Conformity, the killer to creativity”. Some teachers
from these school even believe that “Creativity doesn't belong in any subject area” which keeps
up held down while everyone else around us are succeeding.

“I had an unrealized passion. And that passion was for creating things.”
“Because the one thing that my team would do differently from other competitors every single
time was that while everyone would go up and present their idea through PowerPoint, we would
go to home depot and buy supplies and actually build the idea we were talking about.”
“I think this is what our education system has done. Over just these 5 to 6 years the education
system, these creative children have turned into these teenagers that are unwilling to think
outside the box.”
Eddy Zhong a young entrepreneur says that he has a secret about today’s education
system. Eddy had a team of other people around the age of 16 who created a company that was
basically founded around their ability to let their creativity flow. Eddy believe that because of the
education system, “Every single day kids go to school and they become less intelligent.”
Schools were making kids less intelligent not based on the fact that they were learning new
things but that they were unlearning how to be creative and that schools were not teaching that “I
had an unrealized passion. And that passion was for creating things.” Eddy would go to
competitions and his team would win almost all of them because of their ability to think outside
the box; “Because the one thing that my team would do differently from other competitors every
single time was that while everyone would go up and present their idea through PowerPoint, we

Teenagers now in high school are so unwilling to think outside the box that they are stuck
conforming to every little thing in school and when they finally are out of school they will be lost

unwilling to think outside the box.”I believe that the basis if this ted talk was to say that your
success depends on what you decide to make of yourself, not on the homework you are required
to do.

“Every education system on Earth has the same hierarchy of subjects. Every one. Doesn't matter

Ken Robinsons is an older gentleman who is very interested in the education system. One
thing that Ken is very adamant about is the fact that he believes that “Creativity is as important
as literacy, and we should treat it that way, treat it with the same status.” This whole ted talk
helps prove my point that the education system is killing the creativity of the young minds of the
world. I believe just as much as Ken that creativity is one of if not the most important thing that
we would be teaching at school and are just choosing not to.
One thing that ken noticed when his family moved from England to American was that,
“Every education system on Earth has the same hierarchy of subjects. Every one. Doesn't matter
where you go. You'd think it would be otherwise, but it isn't. At the top are mathematics and
languages, then the humanities, and at the bottom are the arts…My contention is that all kids
have tremendous talents, and we squander them.” One thing that ken said that I totally agree with
is, “All children are born artists, the problem is to remain and artist while we grow up”, when he
says artists me means just all around creative.

companies that plan to milk this new educational landscape for every cent they can get.”

This article talks about how there is more to a student than a simple test they take.
Students are more than the number they place, or the percentage they get and that, “The idea that
everything can be measured by data is leading this nation anyway from the creativity.” This
whole article helps to prove my point that school kill creativity. Many teachers now instead of
helping kids fulfil their talents are only teaching the bare minimum that they end in order to
succeed. We are only preparing our students for average goals in life and not teaching them that
it is okay to reach for the stars, “Classroom teachers have used this thinking to inspire students to

art, music or acting are often brushed aside as we get older and that restless children may be
stigmatized as hyperactive and diagnosed with ADHD.”

This article is very much like the ted talk by Ken Robinsons and that is because it is based
off of that ted talk. This article talks about how society has such a closed mind to this topic and,
“Society also has a very limited definition of intelligence; a definition that looks to numeracy
and literacy only, and stigmatizes children who cannot read and write fluently (but may excel at
other subjects) as ‘not very bright.’” In my opinion I believe that many children now a days are
being over diagnosed with ADHD or ADD or other disorders that make a child seem
hyperactive, and I believe that this is happening because as adults and teachers we don't
understand that a child constantly moving and one that doesn't have a one-track mind isn’t bad or
hurting the learning environment. I believe that the hyperactivity is just a child’s creativity trying
to express itself in an environment hell bend on keeping it locked up and a quote to help put my
believe into perspective is, “Our education system places so much emphasis on the academic
subjects that natural gifts for art, music or acting are often brushed aside as we get older and that
restless children may be stigmatized as hyperactive and diagnosed with ADHD.”
