Learning activity: individual work, pair work.
Anticipated problems: Students might find it difficult to explain the meaning of some words or phrases in their own words; They might find difficulty in identifying the correct explanation for some words; Students might feel nervous and find difficulty in playing out dialogues or expressing their point of view. Materials: worksheets, notebooks, blackboard.
Procedure: T asks Ss to open their textbooks at page 54. T shows Ss a
set of pictures related to food. Then T asks Ss to number the things in the given list. Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T Timing: 5’
Activity 2: Which of these are: -vegetables/fruit/drinks/junk
food/pulses/?
Procedure: T asks Ss to sort in groups the things that belong to
vegetables, fruit, drinks, junk food or pulses. T writes down on the blackboard the words from each category and also adds translation where necessary. Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss Timing: 10’ Activity 3: What is your favourite dish?
Procedure: T asks Ss to work in pairs and act out dialogues related to
food and drinks. T asks Ss to look at the pictures from Exercise 1 and decide what a healthy diet should consist of. Interaction : Ss-Ss/ T-Ss Timing: 10’
Activity 4: Listening for specific information
Procedure: T asks Ss to listen to three dialogues and tick the
food/drinks mentioned in each. T checks their answers. Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T Timing: 5’
Activity 5: Reading for getting details (skimming and scanning a
text) Procedure: T asks Ss to role play three dialogues and say where each one takes place, then answer the questions related to them. T explains Ss the words in bold and write the new vocabulary on the blackboard. Ss copy them in their notebooks. Interaction: Ss-Ss; T-Ss Timing: 10’
Activity 6: The food pyramid and home assignment
Procedure: T asks Ss to look at the food pyramid, then underline the
odd word out in each of the given groups. They also have to make sentences about each group. Ex: Butter, oil and chocolate contain a lot of fat. T checks their answers and gives Ss Exercise 7/56 as homework assignment. Interaction: Ss-Ss; T-Ss Timing: 10’
