MARYKNOLL HIGH
SCHOOL OF MACO –
LETRAN DE DAVAO OF
MACO INC.

Ana Loren S. Patenio BSA -1

The missionary priest and religious, who had establish many
institution or organization especially establishing catholic school are really
worth of God’s grace. We owe to them our Christian education.

Letran de Davao of Maco Inc. (formerly: Maryknoll High School of

Maco) was founded by the Maryknoll Fathers but its ownership has long
been given to the Bishop of Tagum. The bishop heads the Boards of
Trusties of the School with the help of diocesan priest and the school
principal as members under the former’s appointment. Strategically
located at Prk.8, Poblacion, Maco,
Compostela Valley Province
(Formerly: Maco, Davao Del Norte)

Maryknoll of Maco was

establish in 1964 by Maryknoll
Fathers namely John Lennon, MM
and Charles McHugh, MM with the
guidance of the late Bishop Joseph
W. Regan, MM , the then Bishop of
the Diocese of Tagum. And the
building constructor for the
physical pants of the school building was Rev. Fr. Joseph Dawling, MM.

The fathers entrusted the school to the management of the Sisters of

Mary of the Assumption (FMA) in the school year 1964-1965 up to school
year 1987-1988. However the school remained in the stewardship of the
Maryknoll Missionary (MM) priests, Rev. Fr. Fred Crispo, MM served as the
first director.
In the school year 1988 -1989 the Dominican fathers took over the
administration of the school under Rev. Fr. Jerry R. Manlangit, OP as
director and principal. This is the time that the name of the school is being
change into Letran de Davao of Maco Inc. This was the school year that
could be labelled
“tumultuous” since the
students endured the
onslaught of what Fr. Jerry
termed “satanic strikes staged
by the so called cause
oriented teacher strikes
through their unprofessional
attitudes and vulgar
languages”.

According to Mrs.
Adelina Salang Cerbo one of
the teacher of Maryknoll at that time and she is also one of those teachers
who leads the said strikes the only concern of the teachers is to get
enough salary. Because they didn’t receive enough salary and benefits
from the school even if they increase their tuition fee. And the school find
way to solve the problem for the good of everyone, especially for the
safety of the students.

The management of the school was turned over by the Dominican

Fathers to the Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary of the Philippines
(OP Molo) in the school year 1993-1994.
