GMAT DATA SUFFICIENCY
This data sufficiency problem consists of a question and two statements, labeled (1) and (2), in
which certain data are given. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are
sufficient for answering the question.
In data sufficiency problems that ask for the value of a quantity, the data given in the statement
are sufficient only when it is possible to determine exactly one numerical value for the quantity.

data sufficiency problem, it is likely that some rearranging of the terms will be necessary
in order to see the correct answer.

1. Evaluate Statement (1) alone.
1. Statement (1) says that the sum of any two factors is even. The sum of two
integers is even under two circumstances:
odd + odd = even
even + even = even
2. Since the sum of any two factors is even, all the factors must have the same
parity. If x had both even and odd factors, then it would be possible for two
factors to add together and be odd (remember that an odd number + an even
number = an odd number and, in Statement 1, the sum of any two positive
