Introduction Problems & Solutions

A recent systematic review by Yusoff (2017) supports the
validity of MSSQ in terms of content, response process,
internal structure, relations to important variables (i.e.,
cognitive function, cardiac function and academic
performance), and consequences of its score (i.e., high risk
for developing psychological distress, depression and
anxiety, and able to differentiate brain function to a certain
degree as measured by electroencephalogram (EEG). It
was critically appraised by Salazar in 2015 and the report
was published in MedEdPORTAL that is freely accessible
to all levels of users (Salazar, 2015). This has encouraged
medical educators around the globe to use MSSQ as a tool
for evaluating potential stressors among their students,
and thus promote prevention, detection and early
intervention to alleviate the stressors.

Despite widespread use and potentials of MSSQ to

discover stressors in medical students, until now it is
performed manually through pen and paper approach
that has many disadvantages such as inefficient, time
.
consuming and not user-friendly.
