(a) A translucent white waxy solid X (that glows in dark) when boiled with caustic
soda evolves a gas Y with rotten fish smell. On heating X at 573 K in an inert
atmosphere a compound Z with iron grey luster is formed after several days.
The solution of gas Y in water also decomposes in presence of light to give Z.
When Z is heated in a sealed tube at 803 K an opaque monoclinic or
rhombohedral crystal of A is formed.
