Valsad district lies between 72.73* to 73.00* East Longitude 20.07* to 21.05*
North Latitude on the world map. Geographical area of the district is 2,939sq. k.m.
1.2 Topography:
Valsad district is located on the Southern part of Gujarat near Gulf of Cambay in
the Arabian Sea. There are five tehsils in the district namely Valsad, Pardi,
Umargam, Dharampur and Kaprada. Valsad town is district head quarter for the
administration purpose. Vapi located in Pardi tehsil is the core chemical based
industries hub in the district. Valsad is famous for its Valsadi mangoes. Focused
industry sectors in the district are Chemicals, Textiles, Horticulture and Paper
Industries.
Availability of Minerals:
1.3 Forest:
Valsad district is having approximately 87,648 hector under forest. The agro-
climatic conditions of the district are suitable for many tree crops like Acacia, Teak,
Eclalyptus, Kher, Sisoo, Glinisidia, Subabul, tamrind, Neem, Bamboo, Jatropha and
Bixa etc.
Potential for farm forestry and agro forestry development in the non-forest
are\waste land exists in the district. Plantation with species having less shade
effect could be intensive extension efforts to be made for planting of forestry
species on farm bunds. Benefits like stability of bunds check on soil erosion and
wind breaks need to be highlighted along with the income generation,. Moreover,
these types of models could be successful in wasteland areas which have been
treated for treatment.
Valsad town itself is a district head quarter. There are total five tehsils in Valsad
district namely Valsad, Dharampur, Pardi, Kaprada and Umargam. There are 13
towns and 452 village in the district. There are five Taluka Panchayats, 4 Nagar
Palika and 353 Village Panchayats as a Panchyati Raj system helps the district
collector in the administration.

There is huge potential for export of the products manufactured by large and
medium scale units are such as chloroaniline, calcium phosphate, sulphuric acid,
domino sulphone, acetic acids and esters, Iron pipes, seamless pipes and stainless
steels etc., Phosphorus Penta sulphide, Benzoate and Pharmaceutical products.

Development of Maroli Port into a new green field site, which is to be used as an
Industrial Port with an infrastructure of handling 16 MMTPA of general and
containerized cargo would help in attracting future investment in the district. For
increasing the accessibility of Maroli (Umargam) Port, a rail project is proposed
connecting the port with Umargam to Surat and Mumbai.

Industrial units having investment not exceeding Rs. 10 Crore in plant and
machinery are classified as medium scale industrial units. An Entrepreneur or a
company desirous to set up a medium scale project needs an approval in the form
of IEM Part-I or IEM Part-II from District Industries Center, Government of Gujarat
(GoG) of respective District Head quarter. In the sense that the industries are
required to file Industrial Entrepreneur‟s Memorandum (IEM) with Secretariat for
Industrial Approval, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, on
observing certain requirements with respect to location and environment.
In the case of setting up of an Export Oriented Unit (EOU) or setting up a project in
Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a Letter of Permission (LoP) is required to be
obtained from the Development Commissioner of the concerned SEZ. Thus, the
procedure for setting up a large industrial unit would be either filing of IEM,
obtaining Letter of Intent (LOI)/ Industrial License or obtaining Letter of Permission
(LoP) in the case of 100% EOU or SEZ unit. There are 8,186 small scale industries
operating in the district, amongst which chemicals, varied manufacturing industries,
repairing services, food products and non-metallic minerals products are the
significant sectors in the SSI.
There are more than 10,716 Small and Medium Scale enterprises (SMEs) involved in
different sectors of industry such as Chemicals, Textiles, Engineering and Paper
Industries and generating 58,641 jobs in the district. Dye Stuff & Optical, Cotton
Textiles, Chemicals and Lathes & Machine Tools are the major Small Scale industry
sectors present in the district. Pardi tehsil alone houses maximum number of Small
Scale Industrial units with an investment approximately of over INR 39,340 Lacs
providing 25,776 people in the district.

the district. Approximately, 10,716 units in Small Scale Industries in various
sectors having an investment of INR 84,912 Lacs generated 58,641 jobs in the
district
