1] PRECAUTIONARY
Pistol in hand [quickest draw]
2] PRE-EMPTIVE ACCESS
What is your assault cue/mental trigger? Can you assess/orientate, can you make
descisions fast enough to match your technical speed?
SPEED OF APPRECIATION
How fast can you process what’s happening, cycle through the OODA Loop and
make decisions?
Redgun/dry drill
Face of with partner, using Fence. Engage in appropriate dialogue. Partner will
feed you a combat indicatot [furtive movement/weapon access signature] for you to
respnd appropriately
3] INFIGHT ACCESS,
Severe duress, you may be grappling, rocked by a punch, cut, or shot. What does that
do to your drawstroke?

SIGHTS
TRIGGER
Startle position [gunshot at night [ first firework of year] neck down/hands up fists etc.] Note,
do reps from startle position dry/live.
Train using numerous types of assault cue, physical, visual, auditory. Reaction time improved
by recency/frequency of training, especially similar stimuli.
COAT CLEARANCE
Considerations
Type of garment [suit jacket/ops vest/ raid jacket [nylon, lifeless]/shirt, wooly-

STABILIZE STANCE
Must be in the stance before weapon brought to eyeline, otherwise “chasing the
sights”
Do this as you make coat clearance/weapon access; two simultaneous actions rather
than successive actions.
DRAWSTROKE
A] Initial Grip
B] Draw to target.
A] Initial grip
Good initial grip....three fingers around butt, thumb locks down.Trigger finger
straight.
Aim at target, ensure ideal grip. Reholster, and make mental/tactile image of
grip
B] Draw to target

DRY DRILLS
b] Now try to get pistol out, on target, then back into holster, beating
the timer
2] From Fence repeat above drills, including coat clearance, grip / draw.
In the marksmanship books the sequence is sights then trigger. However, in Tactical
Sight Index Shooting we avoid consecutive actions, rather integrate them as simultaneous
actions. So the trigger action commences as the hands extende toward the target, so that as
the arms are about to reach full extension the trigger breaks.
TRIGGER
DRY DRILL Aim in on target, then break back so that elbows almost touch
sides. From this “break back” position, finger off trigger, do reps of extending onto
target and operating the trigger. 30 reps.
Finally, from hand on holstered gun, trying to beat the timer, including trigger
action 10 reps

SIGHTS
DS NOTES
This is just the mechanics, tweek each area to give speed increase.
+++++++++++
Target, 3x5 at 5m. From high ready fire one shot as fast as you can, no conscious sight-
reference; then a follow-up shot using a conscious sight picture.
Partner monitors and gives feedback on differential accuracy of each shot-string; plus
observations about speed [was it maximum?]
i] Eye jab [left] as you step off [Ghost footmork] with right if sufficient distance, draw to
high ready.
ii] If more distance needed, add push with right, then left up into guard, as you draw.
FINAL DRILLS:
BALLOON SHOOT
Three different coloured ballons, back to target. DS nominates the hostage colour. On
timer, pivot, hit 2 ballons
Cont...
..... cont
DS loads magazine, at least five live rounds, one drill round (drill round to be in random
position, but not first or last round in mag.). Trainee has second magazine on belt.
On signal, trainee to fire entire magazine, clearing the ensuing malfunction. When
slide locks back he must perform an emergency reload, and fire one more shot. Target is
normal "kill-zone" on a silhouette, at 8m.
Following the firing an assessment of score and time is made, using the read-out of a
timer.
STANDARDS
A) INSTRUCTOR LEVEL
First shot within 2 secs (from duty/tactical holster, or, open carry), an allowance may
be made for covert carriage.
