REPORT ON TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEY FOR NOONMATI-KHARGULI ROAD

INTRODUCTION:
Guwahati Refinery located at Noonmati in Guwahati, is the first Public
Sector refinery of India under the aegis of Indian Oil Corporation Limited.(IOCL). The refinery was
built with Romanian Collaboration and has a capacity of 1.0 million metric tonnes per annum. This
refinery process crude oil from Upper Assam Oil Fields, India and helps and mainly cater the energy
need of the region.

Because of frequent water Logging and with an objective to lay underground sewerage pipe Line in
Kharguli Road approach Gate for Guwahati Refinery Plant, IOCL. engaged M/s Project Engineering
& Controls private limited , Kolkata to conduct the detail Topographic survey work required for the
proposed route,Vide Work Order No. 25408627 dated 03.03.2018.
M/s Project Engineering & Controls private limited has completed the assignment within the time
frame as per instruction of designated officials from Guwahati Refinery ,IOCL.
On this score the Survey Report comprising of Methodology adopted, Instruments deployed,
summarized featured survey data as generated while carrying out the survey work, conclusion &
Recommendation are given in the present Report.

Location:
The Surveyed corridor was an existing motor able metallic road, located at the Western side of
Guwahati refinery plant at Noonmati, Assam. The survey started from Refinery Gate no.6 (as 00.00
Chainage and ends at Ch. + 4.070KM from which is Jaipur Gate at Ramchai Hills, Ganesh Nagar,
Noonmati, Guwahati, Assam. The said road is also known as Guwahati refinery road (renamed as
Sudhkantha Bhupen Hazarika Road).
Geodetic Co-ordinate of the location was noted as 26°10'58"N, 91°48'11"E at start point and
26°12'4"N, 91°47'2"E at End. 26°12'8"N, 91°47'55"E and 26°12'15.31"N, 91°47'32"E are some of
the in between points.

Method Statement:
The detail field survey Levels were carried out at an interval of 20m along the Noonmati – Kharguli
Road adjacent to IOCL’s Guwahati refinery plant Gate no. 6 ,at Noonmati, Guwahati, Assam using
modern equipments like Electronic Total Station & other auxiliary devices and as detailed hereunder:

 Physical Identification
The area surveyed was identified in field jointly with IOCL engineers.

 Coordinate System, Bench Mark & Reduced levels


IOCL officials supplied the X, Y, Z two points on the alignment as the base point. These were
considered base point for the present survey approach and the recorded reference pillar details
were as under:

 Establishing Control points/Traversing
Double circuit closed traverse using Electronic total Station were established by the side of
road in a staggered manner. Thereafter, the level was transferred to each traverse points.
The traverse calculations are tabulated below (Bowditch Rule)

Reports & Drawings:


Drawings containing Plan, Longitudinal sections & Cross section are prepared as per ISO- A0 size
sheets. The survey Plan map were prepared at 1 in 1000 scale and the cross sections were prepared
at 1 in 5000 scale. Vertical scale for longitudinal section was exaggerated by 10 times.

Survey Features:
 HFL
The area is totally a flood free however the rain water accumulates temporarily in few places
locally due to overloading of existing open kutcha drainage system. RL of the HFL is tabulated
which as collected from the locals were gathered to be as follows

 Road profile:
Throughout the stretch, the road has 7.5m of width with bituminous surface. Gradients are
varying, summarised gradients are tabulated below.

 Traffic:
The being used mainly by IOCL and their employees, however the local pedestrian of
Noonmati area also use this road, No Public buses ply over this road. Two wheelers are mainly
used by the locals, moderate nos. of Four wheelers also plies mainly by the IOCL’s Employees.
The road has no jamming by traffic.

Conclusion & Recommendation:
11KV & 33 KV overhead lines, unlined drain, culvert, Electric post are situated at left side of the
road facing Refinery Plant Gate no.6. For all the Topographical features, Turning points of the
corridors, width of Road at any location of interest, undulation/gradient etc. the corresponding Plan
map ,cross section & Long section as submitted may be referred to.

The proposed underground sewerage Line mains of suitable diameter (to be reckoned from historical
past highest rain fall, average per capita sewerage generation from the local habitants/street side
vendors/establishments etc.), is recommended to be laid along the centre Line of the corridor with
intermittent man holes, Septic Tank to collect sewerage disposed by wayside households as per set
right criterion by the underground sewerage disposal Design Engineer.

Before considering for depth and support type (if any) of concrete sewerage pipes ,construction of
culvert/minor bridge and increasing trend of traffic movement etc it is recommended to undertake
Geo-Technical Investigation at a suitable interval (say 500M ) upto a shallow depth (say 10M depth
from EGL).
