and remote monitoring functions.

3.OPERATING PRINCIPLES AND
FUNCTIONS

3.1 Operating Principles of 48V Rectifier system

Figure 4 Operating Principles of the 48V Rectifier system

The AC distribution unit inputs and distributes the AC power supply.

The rectifiers perform AC/DC conversion.
The DC distribution unit outputs DC power, connects battery to the system and
performs load protection.
The monitor unit collects information, and implements signal conversion and alarm
function.

3.2 Operating Principles of Rectifier

For the operating principles of the rectifier, refer to Rectifier User’s Manual.

3.3 Functions of the Monitor Unit

The monitor unit detects the operation status of system and automatically controls the
operation of the whole system. In addition, it transmits the data to the remote monitor
PC or remote monitor center through the communication interface, realizing
unattended maintenance.
The functions of the monitor unit are described as follows:
1. Data collection and processing

Monitored Object Data Collection and Processing

AC distribution unit AC voltage, AC current
DC distribution unit DC output voltage, battery voltage, battery current, total
load current
Rectifier module Power-on/off control of rectifier, recharge status control
and in-position and fault detection
2. Man-machine interactive interface
The LCD and keys enable the user to set the system running parameters and query
the related information.
3. Communication
The monitor unit provides multiple communication interfaces, such as
RS232/RS485/SNMP.Centralized monitoring can be implemented through modem or
in other ways.
4. Alarm reporting management and protection
The monitor unit processes real-time data, as set by users. The unit records and
stores fault information. The user can also have access to alarms through the monitor
unit directly. The details are shown below:

Item Description
The user can set the upper and lower limits of the system
Alarm setting
parameters according.
Alarm The system has reliable and real-time alarm management
management function.
Alarm mode In case of any alarm, the monitor unit generates audible
and visual signal to inform the maintenance personnel
and reports the alarm information to a background PC
through its communication interface. Press any key to
mute the alarm sound; then the ALM indicator keeps
glowing until the fault is eliminated.

5. Battery management function

1) Battery charging management
In periodic equalized charging mode and power-on equalized charging mode after
power failure, the monitor unit manages storage battery charging. The periodic
equalized charging indicates that the system makes the equalized charging for the
battery according to the period set by the user. The power-on equalized charging
mode after power failure means that the AC supply which is cut off resumes to normal
after the battery has been discharged for a period long enough (to be set by users). In
this case, the system automatically charges a storage battery.
2) Battery protection function
When the mains supply is cut off, the battery supplies the power. The alarm is
generated when the voltage of the battery decreases to a certain degree (settable).
When the voltage of the battery decreases to the protection voltage of primary power
off, cut off the secondary load first. When the further discharge of battery reaches the
protection voltage of the secondary power-off, cut off the primary load, to prevent the
battery from being damaged due to discharge
This ensures that the basic load is maintained for a long period of standby time even
after power failure, that the battery is not damaged due to any over-discharge.
6. Control
Control the power-on, power-off, equalized charging and float charging of the rectifier
through the control instruction of the foreground man-machine interaction operation or
background computer or adjust the output voltage of the rectifier (-42 V ~ -59 V
adjustable continuously) according to the requirements of user.

3.4 Man-Machine Interaction Modes

The 48V rectifier system provides three modes to realize the man-machine
interaction:
Set the system parameters and query the system operation data through the LCD and
the keys of the monitor unit.
Control and manage the system through the background monitor software, installed in
a PC connected to the system through RS232/RS485 interface.
Implement centralized monitoring by connecting the system to a remote PC through
modem or in other communication ways, such as the auxiliary channels of microwave
and optical transmission equipment.

4. MONITOR NETWORKING MODE

The 48V rectifier system supports multiple monitor networking modes, with the details
below:

4.1 Serial port mode:

The system provides RS232/RS485 serial port. In the serial port mode, the system is
connected to a background PC through the serial port. The background monitor
software installed in the PC serves to realize the local centralized monitoring. The
mode is the simplest, but the distance between the system and the background PC
should be no more than 15 m.
Figure 5 Monitor Networking of Serial Port
4.2 TCP/IP Mode
IP mode is a monitoring mode based on Ethernet. The network card converts the
signal from power system into IP packages, and these packages are transferred to
central supervisor through Ethernet.

4.3 SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an "Internet-standard protocol for
managing devices on IP networks". Devices that typically support SNMP include
routers, switches, servers, workstations, printers, modem racks and more.It is used
mostly in network management systems to monitor network-attached devices for
conditions that warrant administrative attention. SNMP is a component of the Internet
Protocol Suite as defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It consists of
a set of standards for network management, including an application layer protocol, a
database schema, and a set of data objects.
