According to Webster's New World dictionary, music is "the art of combining tones to

form expressive composition; any rhythmic sequence of pleasing sounds." However,

music is so much more than that definition; music is in everything around us. Music can
be found everywhere in our world. It helps people find themselves, and helps them
through hard times that we all face in our lives. Music gives us a way to express
ourselves and show how we feel inside ourselves that we don't usually let people see.
Music is important in our world, as well as in our lives, and here are some reasons why.

1. A Way of Expression
Music gives people a way to express who they are inside through many different forms.
Whether it be being a musician (singer, rapper, instrumentalist), being in a band with
other people, teaching music to other people, or anything that you can think of, you can
be exactly who you are or who you want to be through music. Many people today hide
who they are on the inside to try to fit in with everyone else because some people are
afraid of being rejected by those around them. They hide in the crowd until they are
alone and can be who they truly are without fear. Music is important because it gives
people a way to express themselves and be who they are on the inside.

2. A Way of Communicating How We Feel

Music also helps people communicate how they feel inside when they just can't find the
words to say it. Sometimes, in our lives, it is difficult to say how we feel to other people,
but with music we find the words that are missing and the messages that we are trying
to tell people. We all can find the words that we are looking for by either writing songs
or just listening to different songs on the radio or anywhere we are. I know when I have
trouble finding the words that I want to say to people, I write songs to express how I feel
about them or different things in life. Music is important because music helps us find
the words we can't say.
3. Music Brings People Together
Music can bring people in our world together in many ways. Whether it be through the
same taste in music, or the willingness to try something new, or even performing music
with others. Many people like the same genres or styles of music that are out in the
world right now. Being a part of a choir, band, or any kind of group is another thing that
uses music to bring people closer to one another as well. Music is important because it
brings people together in the world.

4. Music is in Everything
Music is everywhere in our world and music relates to everything as well. Music is in all
of our histories starting from the beginning. It is also in science and mathematics in
many ways, as well as in everything else. Without music we would not have anything,
life would be boring and dull. Music is important because it is everywhere around us in
the world.

The ambiance of a music festival sparks a light inside anyone attending. The
electric energy pulsating through the crowd is an addicting rush that unites
every single concertgoer in perfect harmony.

If you've ever been to a festival, you know what I'm talking about (and I don't
just sound crazy). It's an adrenaline rush like you've never experienced
before, and it's not just the drugs.

A good festival experience will consist of meeting people you never normally
would, listening to the sweet melodies of music you've never heard before and
making golden memories you can keep with you for the rest of your life.

There are two things every Millennial should do in his or her early 20s, without
a doubt: travel abroad to explore a foreign culture and attend a music festival.

There are so many reasons you should invest your time and money in a music
festival this season.

Not that I should really have to do any convincing here, but let's back this up
with some research, just in case you need a valid excuse to leave work and
embark on a musical journey.

MUSIC FESTIVALS BOOST YOUR OUTLOOK ON THE WORLD.

The power of music is an incredibly important and unique tool that aids the
human experience.

When added to a social gathering where people from all walks of life have
come to celebrate this art together, it becomes a force unparalleled to
anything else.

Examined Existence reports on a number of studies that show music has

an effect on the mind and overall health of listeners. Research from the
University of Groningen shows that study participants who listened to more
upbeat music experienced happier perceptions of life.

This newfound outlook may be due to chemical changes your brain

experiences while listening to music. Music releases dopamine in our brains,
which is the feel-good hormone that gives you all the feels every time your
favorite Beyoncé song comes on.
By sharing this empowering feeling with each other while jamming to hits in a
beautiful environment, there really is nothing else left in the world that could
possibly enhance your mood. Including all the recreational "mood boosters"
that will be shared around you.
The Sublian festival, a two week long celebration which culminates every year on the 23rd of July, is rooted in the
Batangueños devotion to the town’s patron: the Holy Cross in Bauan and Agoncillo, and the Sto. Niño in Batangas
City.
This religious devotion translated to a dance from indigenous to Batangas: the Subli. Traditionaly performed to the
accompaniment of drums and chanting, the Subli praises the Patron in a combination of poetry, movement and
music.
Today, the Sublian festival features not just devotional dance-song but street dancing indigenous Filipino
games, Harana (serenades), the Lupakan, Awitan at Sayawan: an event which combines the sharing of Nilupak
(local delicacy made of bananas and sweet potato) with folk songs and dancesand even a Malunggayan Fiesta, a day
that celebrates the nutritional benefits of the malunggay (moringa) plant. The Sublian Festival also coincides with the
city’s founding anniversary.
The Sublian Festival is included in the Department of Tourism’s Calendar of Events.

Another Festival celebrated in Batangas City is the annual City Fiesta in honor of its patron, the Sto. Niño’s entrance
into the city though the Calumpang River is held every January 7, the first day of the novena. Nightly, cultural shows
by the city’s schools, a Battle of the Bands, a Children’s Art Competition as well as the Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas,
Beauty Pageant are held culminating on January 16 with a grand Fiesta Parade.

Additional Info about Sublian Festival

The Sublian Festival was started by the city Mayor Eduardo Dimacuha on July 23, 1988 on the annual observation
of the city hood of Batangas City. The objective is to renew the practice of the subli.
So, what is a subli?

A subli is presented during a feast, as ceremonial worship dance in honor to the Holy Cross. The image of the Holy
Cross was found during the Spanish rule in the town of Alitagtag. It is the patron saint of ancient town of Bauan. The
dance is indigenous to the province of Batangas.
The subli is made up of lengthy prayers, songs and dances in predetermined arrangement. The dancers are made up
of one, two or eight couples. The male dancers shuffle in intense fashion and hit the ground using a bamboo stick,
while the female, dance with a sophisticated wrist and finger movement.

The parade usually starts in morning on the 23rd of July after the floral offering. It is commonly participated by the
city government employees, non-government organization, schools and socio-civic organization.

Participants come in native attire with adorned subli hats to symbolize Batangueño attributes and customs.

The best bit of the event is the Foundation Day and the Sublian sa Kalye (in the street), where partakers will
march and dance the subli on the streets. There are around a thousand students who join and perform astreet
dancing subli. The parade usually takes at least an hour or more to complete.
After the Sublian Parade, programs are scheduled for the whole day at the City Hall Complex.

One interesting program during the celebration is the Lupakan (making of a snack called nilupak) at Awitan
(singing) held at the People’s Quadrangle. Here you can catch a glimpse of how the native snack nilupak is made.
And at the same time have a taste of the delectable snack. (Source: batangas-philippines.com)
