“NOTICE ME!”
b. Motivation Let the students observe their surroundings, ask them to find any pattern
that they notice and describe it in the class.
c. Lesson Proper 4A’s approach
“FIND MY PATTERN”
The class will be divided into five groups. Each group will be given a
Activity
number sequence. They will be tasked to observe the progression and find
the pattern of each example.
How was the activity you have just done?
Analysis Did you have difficulty in looking for the pattern?
How did you find the pattern of the sequence?
Abstraction A sequence is a function whose domain is the set of positive integers. It
also means an ordered list of numbers. Each number in a sequence is
called a term. When the sequence goes on forever it is called an infinite
sequence, otherwise it is a finite sequence.
A Rule
Example: the sequence {3, 5, 7, 9, ...} starts at 3 and jumps 2 every time:
Saying "starts at 3 and jumps 2 every time" is fine, but it doesn't help us
calculate the nth term, where n could be any term number we want. So, we
want a formula with "n" in it (where n is any term number).
Firstly, we can see the sequence goes up 2 every time, and add 1
Test Rule: 2n+1
n Term Test Rule
1 3 2n+1 = 2×1 + 1 = 3
2 5 2n+1 = 2×2 + 1 = 5
3 7 2n+1 = 2×3 + 1 = 7
Now we can calculate, for example, the 100th term:
2 × 100 + 1 = 201
Application Think-Pair-Share
Pair the students and give more examples to supplement students’
learning. Allow some students to show their answers on the board.
IV. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
A. Write the first four terms of each sequence given the general term.
1. an =3 n+4
2. an =5 n−1
B. Find the indicated term of the sequence with the given general term.
1
3. an = ; 12th term
n+ 3
4. an =n2 +2 ;7 th term
C. Find the general term for each sequence.
5. 5, 9, 13,…
6. 24, 15, 6, …

“Discovery Learning”
The students will be given a general term. On their activity notebook, let
Activity
them discover how to find for a specific term of a sequence. Afterwards,
call five students to present their discovery on the board.
How was the activity you have just done?
Analysis Did you have difficulty in looking for the specific term?
How did you find the term of the sequence?
To find the indicated term of the sequence with the given general term,
just substitute all n with the indicated term.
1
1. an = ; 15th term
n+ 5
1 1
a15= =
Abstraction 15+5 20
1
Therefore, the 15th term of the given general term is .
20
2. an =2 n+ 3 ; 6th term
a6 =2(6)+3 = 12 + 3 = 15
Therefore, the 6th term of the given general term is 15.
Application Board work
Give more examples to supplement students’ learning. Let them answer it
first on their activity notebook and allow some students to show their
answers on the board.
IV. ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
A. Write the first four terms of each sequence given the general term.
1. an =3 n+2
2. an =6 n−4
B. Find the indicated term of the sequence with the given general term.
2
3. an = ; 8th term
2 n−1
4. an =4 n+ 1; 16 th term

“SUM IT UP”
The class will be divided into five groups. Each group will be given a
Activity
number sequence. They will be asked to sum up the sequence in different
terms.
How was the activity you have just done?
Analysis Did you have difficulty in summing up the sequence?
How did you get the sum of the sequence?
Abstraction The sum of the terms of a sequence forms a series. An infinite series
is the sum of the terms of the infinite sequence while the partial sum or
finite series is the sum of the first n terms.
∑ ak
k=1
Example
4
1. ∑5k = 5(1) +5(2) +5(3) + 5(4)
k=1
= 5 + 10 + 15 + 20
= 50
Application Think-Pair-Share
