General Vet School Questions

How has your education to date influenced your decision to train as a Veterinarian?

How to Answer

The interviewer is probing for information on your previous education and studies, as
well as whether you made practical, real-world connections between your academic
studies and the world of work. When answering this question focus on what part your
education has played in your decision to become a vet. If you have had work experience
and/or internships, this is an opportunity to talk specifically about what you learned in the
classroom that helped you in your decision.

Studying at Veterinarian School will require dedication and commitment to your

workload. How will you ensure you remain?

How to Answer

The interviewer is asking this question to ensure you have considered and are prepared
for the high levels of coursework you will be required to complete. When you answer this
question, be honest -- but also keep your audience in mind. Will you use any specific
methods to keep you focused, such as personal targets or an achievement board?

Why do you feel you are the best candidate for Veterinarian School? What can you bring
to the school that makes you an ideal applicant?

How to Answer

The interviewer is trying to understand strengths and weaknesses. So think about how to
word this without making you look bad. If you state a weakness, then try to let them
know that you acknowledge this weakness , but it does not define you , and that you are
working to strengthen that specific weakness.

Ethics/Legality Questions

Do you think it’s ethical that veterinarians prescribe and sell medication?

How to Answer

Looking for answers can be legal and ethics.

What should I do if someone who isn't a client asks me to sell them prescription drugs or
write a prescription for them to use to obtain drugs?

How to Answer

According to the AVMA's Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics, it is unethical for

veterinarians to sell prescription drugs outside a VCPR. Most states specifically require a VCPR,
so selling prescription drugs outside the VCPR falls outside state veterinary medical practice acts
which dictate how veterinarians must practice medicine. Selling prescription drugs outside a
VCPR would include sales of prescription drugs to distributors or other companies.

Report fraudulent sales to the product manufacturer, and report requests for prescription drug
sales to your state board of pharmacy and the Food and Drug Administration.

So in short ( NO, and report if a sale like this happens)

Can you enter an agreement with a pharmacy that will give me a commission based on
drug sales?

How to Answer

Gaining an undisclosed commission through an agreement with a pharmacy could be viewed as a

deceptive business practice by your state board and thus might be a violation of your state's
practice act. You should check with your state veterinary medical board for rules and
requirements about disclosure of business relationships and advertising guidelines.
