Power Struggle
About one in every five people are diagnosed with a mental disorder each year, other
mental disorders being more severe than others. Susannah Cahalan was diagnosed with a rare
specific site or antigen in the nervous system. Susannah Cahalan has an obvious power struggle
with the doctors in general. Susannah goes to see a doctor named Dr.Najjar, where the doctor
suspects the anti-NMDA receptor autoimmune encephalitis and promises to help treat the
problem. An example of a power struggle between the two, is when Susannah has to keep asking
Dr.Najjar to do stuff like permission to dye her hair. Even if Susannah can perform tasks and
move through society with relative ease by this point, reminders that she's not all there still have
the power to plunge her back down into agonizing about her identity going forward.
