Also, due consideration has been given to the coordination of this standard with the couresponding international standards prevailing in different regions ofthe word In the formulation ofthis standard, assistance has been derived from the following publications: JG] 3-2010 Technical specifications for concrete structures of tall buildings, Ministry of Housing and ‘Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China ACI 318— Building code requirements for structural concrete, American Concrete Institute ASCE 7-10 — Minimum design loads for buildings and other structures, American Society of Civil Engineers Academic & Science ASTM C-1202— Standard test method for electrical indication of concrete’s ability o resist chloride ion penetration, American Society for Testing and Materials EUROCODE 2-EN1992-1-1 —Design of concrete structures, European Committee for Standardization (Continued on third cover) 1S 16700 : 2017 Indian Standard CRITERIA FOR STRUCTURAL SAFETY OF TALL CONCRETE BUILDINGS 1 scor 1.1. This standard covers the following design aspects ‘of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings of height greater than 50 m but less than or equal to 250 m. Generally, this standard is based on prescriptive approach and covers the following design aspects of tall buildings: a ») 9 ’ 8 Selection of appropriate structural system; ‘Geometric proportioning ofthe building; Integrity of structural system; Resistance to wind and eaxthquake effeets; and Other special considerations related to tall buildings 1.2 This standard is not applicable to tall buildings located in the near-field of seismogenic faults, [NOTE — For the purposes of his standard, nerf is taken 510 kay (Shortest distance) from a seismogenie fal. For, buildings cat within Ok (shonest distance) oFscsmagene faults, one igorous approach is needed o proportion ahayza design deal snd const such buildings. The epee requirements mentioned in this sandaed shall be teed for proporning such buildings, but mere sringea speifations ray be specied by the cienvowner ofthe baling o by the {all building committe appointed by the, Ieeal autho smiisrig the balling projec. 1.3 This standards applicable only for buildin house 20 000 or fewer persons. S) 14 This standard may alsosbe sed for design of buildings of height equal too less than. 50 m. The provisions of this standard. will add value‘ the design ofsuch buildings. However, his standard isnot applicable for design of building of height mae tan 250m, 1.5 This standard ddresses‘the Yollowi structural systems of tall concfete buildings: typical a) » ° ® Structural wall systems; Moment frame systems; Moment frame — Structural wall systems; Structural wall —Flatslab floor systems with perimeter moment frame; Structural wall — Framed tube systems; Framed-tube system; Tube-in-tube system; Multiple tube system; ‘Hybrid system; and Any of the above with additional framing systems, for example, outrigger trusses, belt trusses and braced frames, 1.6 This standard shal be read along with all Indian Standards relevant to design and construction of buildings and structures. In case of conflict, clauses given inthis standard shall be applicable. 1.7 For buildings that do not conform to the prescriptive requirements of this standard, a more rigorous procedure is necessery for design and review. The general proceduse to be adopted is given in Annex Ato proportion, analyze, design, detail, gain approval ‘and construct such buildings, Performance cedures more stringent than those specified in Anne A may be specified by the client! ner ofthe building or bythe tall building committee appointed by the local authority administering the “building project. 2 REFERENCES ‘THe Yollowing standards contain provisions which, rough reference in this text, constitute provisions of “this standard.
