Level 6

Office: Language Education Center

Materials: There is no textbook for the course. It is highly recommended you have a paperback English only
dictionary (not English to Korean). Come to class with a pen or pencil and paper for taking notes.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

At Level 6, English becomes less about merely expressing opinions and more about independent thought processes on
a variety of topics. You will start to really communicate in English and connect your thoughts and ideas with others.
You will learn to talk with, not at, others. You will develop thought organization, and we will talk about how we
communicate ideas in English, how we support our ideas with reasons and how we add details to make ourselves fully
understood. This course is designed to develop vocabulary and fluency through abstract topics and themes.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS

Students will be expected to participate in class discussions, group discussions, debates, role-play, individual
presentations and group projects. Students should attend each scheduled class and participate actively.

COURSE EVALUATION

Near the completion of the course, a select number of students will be chosen to participate in the Language
Education Center English Conversation Exit Interview. Candidates will be recommended in conjunction with the other
level 6 instructors. Nomination to take this interview is based on a variety of criteria, including but not limited to your
fluency, accuracy, production, pronunciation, complexity, grammar, motivation, confidence, attendance, cultural
understanding and general command of the English language. It is vital you demonstrate a high level of expertise in
each of these categories, both in and outside the classroom.

The decision to pass this class and/or the exit interview will be based on your ability AND proven ability to perform at
a higher level. NO OTHER FACTORS WILL BE CONSIDERED! According to LEC policy, any student who misses
more than 5 classes will be given a grade of INCOMPLETE, regardless of the reason for absence. If you know you
are going to absent (i.e. holiday or business trip) please let me know ahead of time to set up a mutually beneficial
circumstance so you can still complete the course. All presentations are mandatory.
