Chapter 1:

Introduction

1.1 Project Background:

Finding suitable and reasonable child care is often a challenge. There are many options available
in different places, and at many different price points (although all options are expensive). Each
care option comes with its own pros and cons. It can be confusing for parents to sort through the
different options, and to locate local caregiving resources that fit their individual needs while
remaining suitable and reasonable. Pregnancy is a normal life process influenced by many social
and cultural practices and interactions with the health system. The types of information and
resources sought by women during pregnancy span many domains such as health care, social,
cultural, and material. Accordingly, pregnancy apps incorporate a range of platforms with diverse
features catering to these diverse domains. While there is a growing popularity of pregnancy apps,
it is unclear to what extent they actually address the needs of particular groups of women, such as
culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations.

This is a Baby care application named “Crystal Baby Care” which provides parents with help
regarding the take care of their child. This application is based on health of a child. It takes a
tremendous effort of new mothers with great support from others to take care of their newborn
babies. Bowman (2005) indicated that the learning needs of new mothers include issues with
feeding, dealing with hicupps, detecting signs of infant illness, checking and reading baby’s
temperature, interpreting baby’s crying signals, caring for baby’s abdominal discomfort,
understanding baby’s growth and development, and dealing with choking and safety issues.
Malon’s study (2004) showed that new mothers’ infant care learning needs differ greatly
depending on their baby’s different developmental stages; on the other hand, due to the rapid
changes in a baby’s growth and development, it was found that there was a knowledge deficit
related to new mothers’ limited experience and skills in providing infant care after giving birth.
what steps can we take in order to provide our child with a healthy lifestyle Because Applications
are accessible to patients both at home and on-the-go, health apps are a part of the movement
towards mobile health (mHealth) programs in health care. This application also provides certain
features for pregnant women, Information seeking is a key motivation for women using pregnancy
apps. Certainly, the largest category of apps available on the market involves those providing
information about pregnancy. We found limited research providing evidence of the exponential
rise in popularity of apps for accessing pregnancy information. A 2013 Australian study found that
40% of 35 participants had used at least one smartphone app to access pregnancy information. In
2016, a larger Australian survey study of 410 women reported the proportion of pregnancy app
users as 73%, the vast majority (92%) finding them to be useful

1.2 Problem Description:

The number of working parents, including single-parent families and families with both parents
employed is climbing14.66 million women are part of the civilian labor force, as opposed to 46.38
million men. creating an ever-growing need for quality child care.

1.2.1 Satisfying an important need:

One of the greatest difficulties confronting families today is thinking about their kids while the
guardians work. As indicated by the Agency of Work Measurements, Six out of each 10 moms of
youngsters under age 6 are employed, and the work drive interest of ladies in their childbearing
years keeps on growing. As the quantity of working guardians rises, so will the interest for baby
care.

1.2.2 Fast Paced World

Technology has changed the world and our individual lives in virtually countless list of ways. Now
a days people don’t have time and they look for short cuts. In this modern day and age people look
for smart solutions to their problems and things that save their precious time and provide multiple
benefits are considered most favorable.

1.3 Objectives:

The “Crystal baby care” application focuses on new born babies and their needs, it provides you
with the vaccination dates and notifies you on the said date, it provides you with maps of nearby
hospitals, health tips, food tips and first aid tips. this application also provides a feature for
pregnant women including hospital maps, pregnancy exercises, pregnancy food tips.
1.4 Purpose, Scope, Applicability:

The purpose, scope and applicability have been explained below.

1.4.1 Project Purpose:

This App is designed to help consumers make healthier choices in their everyday life by offering
advice about baby fitness or nutrition. This Application has been designed as a guide to help
parents and other interested parties sort through the various issues involved in selecting and
locating child care options. It begins by describing the different factors that each family must
consider in selecting care. Next, the various types of First aid care available are described which
is followed by food charts so that a child can maintain a healthy life style. A Map of the nearby
hospitals and clinics is provided, this application also provides a Vaccination chart to families that
they should consider while evaluating care facilities. Health professionals and users alike indicate
that given the choice, they would prefer using pregnancy apps that are relevant to their local health
care context and come from a trusted source. Evidence indicates a need for greater health
professional and institutional engagement in the app development, as well as awareness of and
guidance for women’s use of these resources.

1.4.2 Project Scope

The Crystal Baby Care application will provide a friendly user interface so our consumers are
comfortable with this application , Users will be able to enter multiple children and keep a track
of their health , you will be notified when it is the time for the baby’s vaccination , Food chart will
be provided so the baby gets a balanced diet and very helpful Maps will also be provided so you
can locate your nearest clinic or hospital, Basic First aid instructions will also be provided so you
know what do in case something goes wrong

Studies have shown that children who have experienced higher quality child care are more likely
to be employed later in life, and at higher wages. They therefore may be less likely to need to
depend on government benefits. Putting it at the top of a progressive agenda would help the current
generation of parents, and also represent an important investment in the future of their children.
The research evidence supports the contention that better quality child care is related to better
cognitive and social development for children. Numerous studies have found short-term effects of
child care quality on children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development during the early
years. Longer-term effects have also been found, the pregnancy feature helps new moms take care
of their health. The goal of the module is to bring convenience to the pregnant women. Most of
the pregnant women need.

1.4.3 Applicability:

Being a new parent is the most rewarding role a person can take on in their lifetime. But with every
new job there is always a learning curve. There is no instruction manual on how exactly to be a
parent, with every person taking on a different style with different techniques while figuring out
what works best for them. Of course the new little bundle of joy is the cutest blessing in the world,
but being that adorable only makes parents super neurotic over their newborn—no matter if its
their first baby or fifth. And while there is no app to tell you how you should raise your child,
there's plenty of titles that can serve as tools to learn more about the baby and his or her growth,
help give parents a piece of mind when it comes to his or her health, and so on.

Direct applications include

 Vaccination help
 Hospital maps
 Health tips
 Basic First aid
 Food tips
 Pregnancy exercises
 Pregnancy food tips

1.5 Achievements:

Child care is a broad topic that covers a wide spectrum of professionals, institutions, contexts,
activities, and social and cultural conventions. Early child care is an equally important and often
overlooked component of child development. Child care providers can be children's first teachers,
and therefore play an integral role in systems of early childhood education. Quality care from a
young age can have a substantial impact on the future successes of children. The main focus of
childcare is on the development of the child, whether that be mental, social, or psychological.

1.5.1 Knowledge Achieved:

If you haven't spent a lot of time around newborns, their fragility may be intimidating. Here are a
few basics to remember:

 Wash your hands (or use a hand sanitizer) before handling your baby. Newborns don't
have a strong immune system yet, so they're at risk for infection. Make sure that everyone
who handles your baby has clean hands.
 Support your baby's head and neck. Cradle the head when carrying your baby and support
the head when carrying the baby upright or when you lay your baby down.
 Never shake your newborn, whether in play or in frustration. Shaking can cause bleeding
in the brain and even death. If you need to wake your infant, don't do it by shaking —
instead, tickle your baby's feet or blow gently on a cheek.
 Make sure your baby is securely fastened into the carrier, stroller, or car seat. Limit any
activity that could be too rough or bouncy.
 Remember that your newborn is not ready for rough play, such as being jiggled on the knee
or thrown in the air.

1.5.2 Goals Achieved:

The following are the goals achieved:

 Generation of proper Vaccination charts.

 Generation of an online database with child care information.
 Generation of an online database with pregnancy information.
 Generation of maps with proper markers of nearby hospitals.
 Generation of an interactive user interface.
 Simple and compact layout design.
