Re: Mobile Devices Purchase
In assessing the best options for the Sales team’s new mobile devices, we took a look at three
major competitors. Sprint Nextel, AT&T, formerly Cingular Wireless, and Verizon Wireless. We took into
consideration the needs laid out to us by the sales team. The devices we selected would need to include:
Built in Phone
Texting Plan
Data and Picture Messaging
900 Minutes per Week
In addition we felt that the device should allow the sales team to have their e-mail available on
the device. With these criteria in place, we researched several devices. The biggest benefit in terms of
cost was the Blackberry Pearl. The phone is compact, but offers a camera, compatibility with Microsoft
Office, and an extended QWERTY keyboard for ease of typing.
Overall, we were impressed by the plan laid forward by Nextel. They offered the most cost
effective solution in terms of minutes, as well as unlimited data plan. This would allow employees to use
the device to its full effectiveness on the go, checking email, sending text messages, photos, and
accessing the internet.
While AT&T offered a competitive price on the devices, they didn’t allow unlimited pictures, and
their plan was more costly. Verizon barely peaked our interest with their phone coming in at double the
cost and a comparable plan being nearly double in price for the same amount of service as Nextel.
Figure 1. This spreadsheet details our findings by wireless service provider. Cost of plan, data limits, and
bonus features were all taken into account.

Re: Internet Skills
After trying out these three search engines, I have found Google and AltaVista to be the
easiest to use. They provide the information that is easier to understand further up the results
page. The other websites had more digging that had to be done, and sometimes the results
were not what I was looking for. Google and AltaVista both take the popularity and size of a
website into account when displaying the most relevant results for a user’s search.
Between these two websites, I would have to choose AltaVista because of the easier
access to international versus national searching. Underneath the search bar on AltaVista, you
have the option of searching within the United States or worldwide, and because of this simple
feature I choose AltaVista as the easier to use of the search engines.
Google has the possibility to filter on a language basis however, and they have an entire
page of advanced and extended options for the user. However, it is the ease of access that
makes AltaVista appealing.

Business Analysis:
After reviewing all of the information gathered above, in order for KoKo’s Canine Pet Club to
succeed, Ms. Hannah would have to become more organized and efficient with clients and their pets.
This can be done by building a simple, yet effective, database for the business including Client and Pet
forms, Client and Pet tables, Walker Schedule and Client List reports, and several queries. By producing
all of these tables and queries, Ms. Hannah will be able to maintain a sense of organization and know
which clients have which appointments. This will aid her in being able to provide quality service to her
clients thus continuing business with them which will further benefit the business enabling expansion
and increased revenues.
