Installation Instructions For Spring Han - Witzenmann
General information
Mounting points
The necessary mounting points must be prepared for attaching the spring hangers and spring supports to the
supporting structure:
welding plates and/or clamping lugs for suspended types (FHD, FHG and FDT)
support beams (drilled) or mounting plates for upright types (FHS, FSS and FSP) and trestles for sway
supports (type FSG)
Function
Spring hangers and spring supports transfer forces from the pipe to the supporting structure over a specific motion
range. In the factory spring hangers and spring supports are preset for the appropriate installed load and locked.
Installation of spring hangers or spring supports in the unlocked state is not recommended.

Tighten the adjusting nut until the ‘cold load’ of the spring hanger works
(first grease the threaded rod and all threaded parts).
Otherwise proceed as described above.

As with the other types of spring supports, the support head is fitted loosely on the side of the adjustable support
tube. By rotating the support tube (first grease the threads) the entire support is tightened (adjustment range
+30 mm).
With sway supports of size 08 or larger, the load must be relieved before making the adjustment.
After unlocking the spring hanger or spring support, hang the travel stops below the nose of the support plate
(slot) for storage and secure them with a wire.
With size 12 and larger devices, the travel stops can be secured to bolts welded to the housing.
After this, check the inclination of the support plate again.
The maximum allowable inclination to be expected in operation is 4°.
All threaded parts, with the exception of the left-hand thread of the turnbuckle nut, must be secured with locknuts.
When performing the cold-water pressure test on pipes equipped with spring hangers and/or spring supports, these
need to be locked to prevent unallowable distortion of the pipe.
The spring hangers and spring supports are thus dimensioned to handle twice their rated load in both the locked
and unlocked states, with a safety margin of 1.25. In an overload situation, the noses of the spring hangers /
supports in an unlocked state will rest on the bottom stop (at the bottom of the slot).
After the system is put into service Spring hangers and/or spring supports should be checked to verify their ‘hot
position’. This position is marked by a red triangle scale which contains the indicator screen. Corrective action
must be taken if large deviations are found.
If larger or smaller operating loads as calculated are the cause of this deviation, they must be readjusted (for
example by adjusting the turnbuckle nut).
If the available travel range or load range is exceeded, the device must be replaced by a suitable device.
Maintenance
Spring hangers and spring supports do not require maintenance and do not have any wear parts.

Set load
By modifying the installation dimensions, the load acting on the hanger
or support can be adjusted and the installation load adapted (turning the
turnbuckle nut in the case of hangers; turning the support tube or the
adjustment nut below the support plate in the case of spring supports). Fvorh
act
The position of the travel stop stack indicates whether the load is too Set load
big or too small:
Effective load too big: - increase the installation dimension for spring hangers
- decrease the installation dimension for spring supports
Effective load too small: - decrease the installation dimension for spring hangers
- increase the installation dimension for spring supports

Caution
By modifying the installation dimensions the available loads on other support points in the piping system will
change.
