Wayang or puppet from cassava leaf as

the media for teaching english in primary


learner
Many students in primary school dind’t excited to learn english because
they feel bored and they think that english is very difficult. In that cased the
teacher have a responsibility to break that thought. So many media that can be
used to make students interest on study. That media should not be expensive
but may attract the attention of students. We can make it by ourself and invite
the students to make the media. For easy way we can use puppet, don’t
imagine that we’ll make puppet from fabric, remember that we didn’t have to
spend much moneybut make us everything around us. Paper still make us
spend money but how about cassava leaf? It’s free right? We can use cassava
leaf as the material for making wayang or puppet, it’s traditional puppet from
Indonesia. So many tutorials in youtube than can be followed. Easy to making
and didn’t have to spend your money. And it can be creat your students
creaivity. This media is suitable for student in primary school, we can use the
media for intoducing the colors, number, or we can used it for story telling, so
your student will be excited.

In my project, iam using wayang or puppet from cassava leaf to


introducing the basic colors for student in primary learner. We just play with
sound and movement, and students will be interested. Make every caracter like
in real life.

Rules and the way to used it

Teacher should bringtwo or more puppet or wayang from cassava


leaf,"Penggunaan lebih dari dua boneka maka percakapan atau alur cerita
dilakukan oleh kedua boneka tersebut yang disuarakan oleh guru atau orang
tua dengan karakter suara yang berbeda. Agar jalan cerita terdengar indah,
dipermanis dengan alunan musik" (Gunarti, 2010). So using two puppet or
wayang can make the story more beautiful and the theacher can added music
to make the sory more enticing.The teacher can make it with the students
also.For the first the teacher should make the other media to make wayang
more interesting, for example if we want to teach about story telling about
Tangled so we should make a castle.

The second is teacher can asked the students to play the puppet and
practice it. In playing this puppet, better if played by two people, one pupet for
one student. So how if the teacher want to introduce about colors? The
teacher brings two puppet and then every pupet have the uniqe name or can
take the name from wayang Pandawa, for example Petruk and Semar, study
about english and also about culture. How to play? For the first, teacher using
the first puppet named Petruk and then put the coloring paper at the white
board, tell the student about the colors in english by using the puppet, make
the puppet moves like in Wayang shows. Using repetation so students can
remember. After that, using the second puppet or wayang named semar.
Semar used to give the question about colors, the teacher put the fruits that
was colouring and then ask the colors of that fruits. Moved the puppet or
wayang like it really puppet or wayang that asked the students.

At the end, give the feedback for students, and see how much the
stundents can learn.

Conclusion.

Something new andunique can make students interesting in learning.


Using puppet or wayang in learning english also can make students learning
about culture in Indonesia especialy Wayang.Puppet or wayang canhoning
student skills andIt encourages students to be more creative and to invest their
imaginations in this learning.Puppet or wayang from cassava leaf is easy to
make, and didn't spend much money. Using this media same as playing with
stundents, so it can't make them bored.
