The document discusses the nature of learners and learning. It defines a learner as a being with both a body and a rational soul, who experiences the world through their senses. Learners are curious, open-minded individuals looking to build new understandings. For effective learning, a learner must have their physical needs met, like hunger and sleep, and their cognitive faculties developed. These cognitive faculties include the five senses, instincts, imagination, memory, and intellect. Learners also have appetitive faculties like will, ability, aptitude, and interests that influence their learning. To learn fully, a learner needs attention to their physical, mental, social, material, and spiritual development.

So what comes first into your mind when you heard about the word

“Learner” Learner is an embodied spirit neither it’s a neither body nor spirit
alone. it is a union of a sentient body or a rational soul where the body
experience sensations and feels pleasures and pain. Learner also refers to
the person who serves as a key participant in learning processes, as a
learner you are “curious” over things you need to know, “open-minded” for
the new ideas that might include to your prior knowledge and ready to
activate your cognitive abilities to build a new abstracts wherein you can put
your new insights into your life. The learner has the power to see, hear, to
touch, smell, taste, etc. if the learner who is hunger, physically exhausted
and sleepy it cannot perform its best at school that why a school cannot
ignore the learners physical needs. There are a lot of practices in school
that show cares on their physical needs like for example the feeding
program in which the teacher help the team of health personnel to check the
learner situation. The learners have the ability to learn. They are capable of
expressing themselves what they’ve got or what they’ve do.

The fundamental equipment of the learner is the cognitive and appetitive

faculties. Literally it is not referring to physical things nor tools itself that we
can simply equip for learning purposes but it is about “Cognitive Faculties”
and “Appetitive Faculties”. According to Cognitive Faculties means….and it
consist of five senses (The five senses are the five main tools that humans use to perceive the world.
Those senses are sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. We see with our eyes, we smell with our noses, we listen with
our ears, we taste with our tongue, and we touch with our skin. Our brain receives signals from each of these organs,
and interprets them to give us a sense of what's happening around us. For effective and efficient learning of a learner,
the five senses should function normally because if it is not then . we wouldn't have any idea what was going on around
us and the human body would be functionally useless. Each of the senses therefore provides important functions and
serves a particular intended purpose. Let's talk about some of those functions.)

Instinct (it is means that the learner has a natural or inherent capacity or
tendency to respond to environmental stimuli such as danger signs or self-
preservation. For the learner to learn and develop into human person, the
teacher must teach and the learner put his instincts under control because if
it is not he/she will be different from any brute and will be far from becoming
a human person who is capable of understanding, reasoning, choice and
self-control that he/she is meant to become.,

Imagination is the ability of the mind to build mental scenes, objects or

events that do not exist, are not present or have happened in the past.
There are many instances in the teaching-learning process that call for the
learner’s power of imagination it maybe in a form of analyzing, representing
a role, visualizing a situation and in inventing creative ways of presenting/
w/o the use of imagination the learner’s creative ways will be hold. So the
teacher must therefore help the learner develop his/her power of
imagination be encouraging them to think outside the box, to be creative,
from new ideas and explore the old things.

Memory is responsible for retaining and recalling past experiences, an

important reminder to every learner that memorizing will not be functional
without understanding.

Intellect is the ability of the learner to engage in cognitive processes such as

forming ideas or concepts, reasoning out and making judgment.

Appetitive Faculties consists of: Will, Ability, Aptitude and Interests. The
learner wills what his/her intellect presents as good and desirable, “will” is
the also a factor that contribute to the differences among learners. Ability
dictates the prospects of success in any purposeful activity of every learner.
Aptitude refers to the learner’s innate talent or gift and the capacity of every
learner to learn certain skills. Lastly the learner’s Interest, which makes
learning no longer a task but instead serving pleasure to learn more.
However a learner which is nurtured but only in physical aspect will still
remain insufficient in terms of learning. Every learner must be given
attention by encouraging them to utilize their mental skills/abilities in order to
give their best in class when it comes to learning that requires critical
thinking and any other activities involving cognitive processes. Only when a
learner is nourished physically, mentally, socially, materially and spiritually
he/she can be complete for that is his/her very nature. God bless us.
