Tutorial - Remote Access To HP
Remote Access To HP is the preferred virtual private network (VPN) solution for employees to connect remotely to the
HP network. Authentication is performed by using Class-A DigitalBadge.
1. Insert your ActivKey or ActivCard (this is where your Class-A Digital Badge is stored)
2. Double click -> Remote Access to HP Network icon located on your desktop.
3. The first time you run Remote Access to HP you will be prompted to select VPN destination. For optimum
remote access performance, select the regional gateway closest to you.
To change the VPN destination:
Double-click -> Remote Access to HP Network icon located on your desktop -> click Properties
Select a VPN destination from the drop down list (see image above)
Right-click on the Remote Access to HP Network icon on the desktop. Select Disconnect.
If you are having trouble connecting, the first step is to check if you have a good ISP connection by trying to access an
Internet portal using your browser (e.g. http ://www.google.com)
Second step is to use Connection Assistant built into Remote Access to HP to help you troubleshoot further.
If you are able to connect after the first series of checks, you may close the Connection Assistant.
If you are still unable to connect, return to the Connection Assistant and press the Next button. Connection Assistant
will perform additional diagnostics.
o If Connection Assistant detects a problem with your DigitalBadge, you will be directed to the DigitalBadge
website and receive instructions for testing the validity of your Class-A DigitalBadge certificate and private
key installed on your ActivKey / ActivCard. If necessary, go to https://digitalbadge.external.hp.com to get a
new Class-A DigitalBadge.
o Once the validity check is passed, close the DigitalBadge web page, close the Connection Assistant and try
to connect again.
o If you still cannot connect, click on the Help button and reference the FAQs which provide solutions to most
common problems.
