I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Illustrate the unit circle and the relationship between the linear and angular
measures of arcs in a unit circle.
b. Convert degree measure to radian measure, and vice versa.
c. Apply the concept involving angles in a unit circle in solving problems.
b. Developmental Activities
Present the following problem:
Identify the terminal side of an angle in standard position with the given
measure. Then, convert the following degree measure to radian and radian
measures to degrees.
B. Analysis
Compare and contrast the different angles in a unit circle to the clockwise and
counter clockwise movement of a clock.
C. Abstraction
Angles in trigonometry differ from angles in Euclidean Geometry in the sense of
motion. An angle in geometry is defined as a union of rays and has measure
between 0° and 180°. An angle in trigonometry is a rotation of a ray, and,
therefore, has no limit. It has positive and negative measures.
Show students how to get the terminal side of angles and derive the formula to
use to convert degree measures to radian measures and vice versa.
𝜋
Degree × 180 = radian measure
180
Radian × = degree measure
𝜋
Let the students solve the problem using what the concept and formula learned.
D. Application
1. Convert the following degree measures to radian measures.
a) 60°
b) 90°
2. Convert the following radian measures to degree measures.
𝜋
c) rad
9
3𝜋
d) rad

IV. Generalization
What is the terminal side of an angle? How do we convert radians to degrees and
degrees to radians?
V. Assignment

VI. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Illustrate angles in standard position and coterminal angle, arc lengths and
area of a sector.
b. Solve arc lengths and area od a sector.
c. Apply the concept involving angles and arcs in a unit circle in solving
problems.
vi. Drill/Review
a. What are arcs and what unit of measure is used for
measuring arcs?
vii. Motivation
Illustrate the following angle in a unit circle.
a. 410° and 50°
b. 736° and 16°
What can you say about the set of angles?
b. Developmental Activities
1. Present the following problem:
2. Find the length of an arc of a circle with radius 10m that subtends a
central angle of 30°?
3. Find the area of a sector of a circle with central angle of 60° if the
radius of the circle is 3m.
B. Analysis
1. What do we mean when we say coterminal? What do you think about the
illustration for the angle measure of 410° and that of 50° as shown below?
2. Make an illustration using the information given. Follow the format below:
3. Make an illustration using the information given. Follow the format below:
C. Abstraction
1. Show students that we can only say that two angles are coterminal if and only if
their degree measures differ by 360k, where k is an element of integers. Similarly,
two angles are coterminal if and only if their radian measures differ by 2𝜋𝑘,
where k us an element of integers.
2. Derive the formula for finding the arc length. Show that a central angle whose
radian measure is 𝜃 subtends an arc that is fraction of the circumference of the
circle. A circle with radius r, the length of an arc that subtends the angle 𝜃 is:
3. Derive the formula for finding the area of a sector. In a circle, the radius r, the
area A of a sector with a central angle measuring 𝜃 radians is
Let the students solve the problem using the concept learned.
D. Application
1. Find the angle between 0° and 360° or between 0 rad and 2 rad that is
coterminal with the given angle.
2. Find the length of an arc of a circle with radius 21 m that subtends a central
angle of 15 degrees.
3. A sprinkler on a golf course fairway is set to spray water over a distance of 70ft
and rotates through an angle of 120 degrees. Find the area of the fairway watered
by the sprinkler.
IX. Generalization
