Contractor Series
NEW
Megger DET3 and 4
More choice, easier operation, less test time
The new ground testing instrument family from Megger is comprised of a digital 3-terminal
instrument for grounding and bonding tests, a digital 4-terminal model that adds resistivity
measurement, an analog 3-terminal model, and a revolutionary new 3-terminal tester that
adds a current measuring function for ART (Attached Rod Technique) testing capabilities.
With this added function, on-site grounds can be tested separately without having to
remove the utility connection.
The complete kit comes with everything needed to start testing in one package —
instrument, test leads, stakes, batteries and calibration certificate. (Certificate not included
with analog model.)
These Megger digital and analog ground testers are powered by eight AA batteries which
give excellent testing time — the status of the batteries is given by a bar graph on the
LCD. (On the analog model, battery status is indicated by selecting the function on the
selector switch.)
The Megger DET3 and 4 Series earth/ground testers are designed to
meet stringent safety standards and are rated CAT IV 100V.

The new Model DET3TC employs a special current clamp and built-in microprocessor to
measure and calculate the ground resistance (strictly in accordance with Fall of Potential
and supported by IEEE Standard 81), without disconnected the utility connection. A
nagging problem with traditional ground testing has been the requirement to disconnect
the utility ground.
Using the ART (Attached Rod Technique) method you can reliably measure a grounding
electrode while still connected. This method enables local grounds to be tested without
lifting the utility connection yet with the ease, reliability and confidence of a separate
commissioning test.
How Does It Work?
The ART method solves the problem by utilizing the following technique.
A current clamp is connected below the point of separation of the parallel test currents.
It then measures only the current flowing through the test ground, not that going back
through the utility. This current value is then used by the built-in microprocessor in the
instrument to calculate ground resistance, strictly in accordance with Fall of Potential and
supported by IEEE Standard 81.
That’s why using the new ART ground testing method is much more convenient and
significantly reduces your testing time by as much as 40%! Using ART method with the DET3TC to test
commercial ground without disconnecting

Clamp-ons
The Megger models DET10C and 20C are a useful addition to the
more traditional methods of earth/ground resistance testing that
may require disconnection and the use of stakes or ground rods.
Simply clamp around the conductor or stake/rod and measure the
resistance to ground quickly and accurately.
The DET10C and 20C can be used to measure earth/ground
resistance in multiple loop installations without disconnecting the
earth or ground, allowing quick and easy testing in total safety.
These clamp-on testers feature improved ground resistance ranges
from 0.025 mΩ to 1550 mΩ and ground leakage current from
0.2 mA to 35 A.
