Content Standard:
Demonstrates a command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing
or speaking.
Performance Standard:
Speaks and writes using good command of the conventions of standard.

I. Learning Competencies:

EN6G-Ih-3.9 Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate grammatical


structures: -Subject-verb agreement
EN6A-Ih-18 Show openness to criticism
EN6A-Ih-16 Observe politeness at all times

II. LEARNING CONTENT


Lesson: Subject and Verb Agreement
Materials: Manila Paper, Markers, Scotch Tape, Monitor/Projector
References: Essential English 6, pp. 73-75

III. PROCEDURES
A. SETTING THE STAGE:
(Teacher comes to class with a sad face..)
Teacher says: Class, I have a problem, My friend has been bashed on facebook and
I’d like to help him. In fact, I want all of us to help him. We can do it by learning how
to make correct sentences. This is called making our subject agrees with our verb in
the sentence… Here is what we are going to do. We will make the subject agrees with
the verb in a sentence.

B. EXPLAINING THE STUDENTS WHAT TO DO:


C. MODELLING (I DO):

I will show you my friend’s post on Facebook and let us find out why him post
was being bashed.

The message is there, right? He wants to express his feelings that he is very happy
with the gift that he have received during his graduation day.. Do you agree with
me???

But why do you think that still he has been bashed?? The post has been bashed
because of the subject verb agreement.
Here it is, the subject in his post is mother and the verb in his post is give..

1. Singular nouns as subject of the sentence take singular verbs.


To make singular verb, just add –s or –es to the base form of the verb.

Here is another post.


The subject is my friends and the verb is gives.

2. Plural nouns as subject of the sentence take plural verbs.


To make the verb agrees with the subject, just use the base form.

D. GUIDED OR DIRECTED PRACTICE (WE DO)

Instructions: Read and analyze the subject and the verb in each of the following.
Identify the error and explain why.

E. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE (YOU DO)


Instructions: Choose a partner and interview him/her about her important learnings
based on our lessons and post it on our group chat using correct subject-verb agreement.

F. APPLICATION:

Instructions: Analyze the blog carefully. Supply the correct form of verb that
agrees with the subject.
Sampaguita is our national flower. It ________
(smell) good. The Filipinos _______ (use) it as an
ornamental display. It also ______ (serve) as
necklace during graduation day. Mother _______
(offer) this kind of flower at the altar. Some of the
less fortunate children _______ (sell) this at the
street. How useful the sampaguita flower is to
everyone.

G. CLOSURE/ASSESSMENT
Why is it important for us to use correct subject-verb agreement? How can we use it
on our daily lives?
