Miscellaneous questions in horary astrology

1. What is horary astrology?

Predictive astrology has two distinct branches viz. natal and horary. The natal astrology is
based on the chart for the time of the birth of a native and the life - time results are assessed from
this chart. The horary astrology is based on the chart drawn for the time of the birth (delivery) of
a question, event or thought and the fate of the query is assessed from it.
The horary chart thus erected and verified should be subjected to both the parashari
system and/or Tajik system for delineation. However, for Tajik system Tajik aspects and yogas
should be applied. Both the systems are applied separately and are not mixed.
This branch of science is mysterious, prefect, wonderful and most useful. After
thoroughly understanding the principles, one can offer correct, clear and precise predictions
without any confusion. This method is as rational and as scientific as any other branch of
astrology and it is the sublime art of fore-seeing events from the position of the planets at the
moment when one propounds a question seriously about any important matter such as longevity,
health, success or failure in one’s enterprise, one’s stay in foreign land or his return, the time of
marriage, the description of partner, re-union or divorce, birth and death of children, sex of the
child, results of the examination, recovery of lost articles, return of missing person or traveler,
gain by lottery, success in litigation, legacy and anything and everything. The answer to question
whose result is awaited in immediate near future can be found out from horary astrology. This
branch of science is neither a bluff nor it dupes the gullible throng.
It is a distinctive branch of Hindu Astrology. It has stood the test of time and is of great
service to man in times of tension and trouble, of doubt and despair. It provides a sense of relief
to a distressed mind haunted with problems. Human life is beset with problems and there is a
natural urge in man to know whether his problems will bet successfully solved. It is here that
Horary Astrology comes to his aid. Most of the persons do not possess their accurate birth data.
As a result, birth charts erected on probable data do not yield satisfactory results. As regards the
majority of the people who are not equipped with correct birth details, Hindu rishis of old have
opened a new avenue of studying and answering a specific problem or query by erecting a chart
for the specific moment when a query is made. This helps man to know about the result of the
specific problem in advance.
2. What is Philosophy of horary astrology?
The key element in Horary Astrology is the precise time when a person unfolds his mind, the
problem with which it is obsessed, in the form of a query. To put a query to an astrologer is an
expression of mind, which, in his anxiety, he desires to know the answer. What is intense in
thought manifests itself as a vital impulse of the human heart that breaks in upon the world of
time. A string of human hopes, wishes and anxieties is attached to this impulse. A problem, born
of desire, germinates in time and is solved in time. The expression of a desire or a problem at a
specific moment is not merely incidental, it shows the co-relation between mental events and
planetary configurations or cosmic radiation. Man in astrological sense is not static being but an
evolving individual. Each desire that attains intensity lurks in his sub conscious mind and
becomes the driving force of his inner being. The importance of the query time cannot be
underestimated. In Hindu philosophy time is not a succession of instants, it is a cosmic whole. At
the time of query, a person’s mental energies containing the seeds of his intense desire are
telescoped into a precise moment and this becomes a tool of investigation at the hands of an
astrologer. He erects an astrological chart with reference to the specific time of query and on the
basis of it assesses the results. The results are startling not only in relation to the query made but
also in relation to other events in the querent’s life. Time is cosmic whole, and so predictive
results can be obtained from the study of a horary chart.

3. What is Origin of horary?
i. As per Hindu mythology lord Brahma approached lord Vishnu and expressed his desire to
learn prashana to solve anxieties for immediate future. This was the origin of prashna shastra.
ii. Jyotisha is a vedanga. It is divided into 3 skandhas i.e. siddhanta (mathematical and
astronomy), samhita (natural phenomenon like earthquakes, weather, famines, epidemics) and
hora (natal predictive). These 3 skandhas are classified into 6 parts– siddhanta, samhita, hora,
shakun (omens), muhurta and prashana. Prashana is horary astrology and thus has Vedic Origin.
iii. The history of astrology begins with the creation itself. Sage Garga says that this science
was propounded by the Creator himself and Lord Brahma handed it down to him at the time of
creation. Sage Garga handed down this science to his disciples. Yavanas were very learned
astrologers and they contributed much for its development making horary a perfect divine
science which can be fully relied upon.
4. Horary versus natal astrology
1. In horary astrology, we know the exact time, date and place of query whereas the
correctness of horoscope cannot be vouchsafed in natal astrology.
2. Horary gives instantaneous replies to the question, whereas in natal, dasha, antardasha
even up to sooksham dashas are to be calculated which entails lot of time-consuming factor.
3. Questions regarding twin births are difficult to analyze from natal charts, as both
horoscopes are almost similar even by the dasha balance. Therefore, the reply cannot be given
by referring to horoscopes. However, in horary the question time for each individual will vary
and correct predictions can be offered on the current disposition of the planets.
4. Horary astrology is simple as compared to natal astrology.
5. Exactness of the event regarding profits, missing person, stolen property, service and
profession or politics etc. can be predicted easily in a horary chart than in a natal chart.
5. Why the need for horary:
1. The basic principle of astrology is that ‘kaal’ is the controller of universe. This ‘kaal’ or
time indicates destiny of the person through the placement of planets in the zodiac at the time of
birth. ‘Time’ is the most important tool to unfold the unseen. Due to this fact, the ‘accuracy’ of
time is very important in astrology. The biggest reason for failed astrological predictions is the
non-availability of an accurate birth time. Moreover, there are different views as to the time of
birth. Whether it should be time of first cry, or of first appearance of the head, or of the severing
of the umbilical cord or of the first touch of the body with the ground. All these factors remain
debatable and remain unanswered even by our classical works.
2. The existing methods of rectification of birth time are neither effective nor popular.
Moreover, they are time consuming and even after proper rectification, there is no guarantee that
the results are correct.
3. Some times there are urgent or emergent situations when there is no time either to cast a
horoscope or to retrieve it due to lack of time, and in such situations prashana kundli gives
accurate results. Many things can be accurately predicted by the ‘prashana’ chart because we
know the exact time of query.
iv. Even where accurate birth chart is available, there are many areas of solving the immediate
problems and anxieties which can be dealt only by a prashana chart, and the role of the birth
chart can at best be taken as supplementary. For example, in case of theft, the recovery of stolen
property, missing person whether alive or dead, his present state of well being, chances of his
return or likelihood of recovery from disease, whether medicine is appropriate, whether the
diagnosis is correct, the prospects of marriage and in case of progeny whether the woman is
pregnant and sex of the child. In such queries only the prashana chart can be relied upon to give
amazingly accurate results. The natal chart is unable to give such clues.
6. What is Scope of horary astrology?
2
The scope of prashna kundali extends to the events pertaining to near past or future and may
extend up to a maximum of one year.
7. What are assumptions in horary astrology?
Behind the science of horary astrology definitely lies a series of assumptions:-
(1) Only he, who is fated to approach an astrologer for an emergent problem will approach
him. A person goes to an astrologer prompted by providence to know his future. Such a person
will make the approach only at such times when he is fated to express him mental anguish,
seeking enlightenment on his future/personal problems.
(2) (2) The second assumption is his repeated query of the same kind, if the moment/time for
solution is not at hand yet. Repetition does not necessarily arise in cases wherein a brief period of
waiting finds that the problem is solved in one way or the other.
(3) (3) The 3rd assumption is premised on two kinds of karma viz. sanchita and
pralabdha. The effects of sanchita are exhausted in heaven or hell. The results of pralabdha
karma are lessened only be experiencing them. So, in sanchita cases, no solution is at hand, and
hence there occurs repetition of the same question. In pralabdha karma cases, the one time query
is made only when the moment of/for solution is at hand.
(4) (4) A horary chart erected will hold good for short duration only. One year for predicted
results. This is the maximum period suggested by neelkanta daivagnya. Hence the astrologer is
expected to dissuade the querist from putting the same query over and over again or at the most
use the original horary chart to study it again.
(5) An astrologer with inferential ability and intuition, perception, purification of mind,
enlightenment and perfection should deal with this subject. It is the divine law that when a
sincere querent approaches the astrologer, the position of lagna & planets will be such that will
answer correctly his queries. Here the divine force so works that the number taken by the
astrologer or the chart cast for the moment one approaches the astrologer gives a clear and
correct answer. It is the divine force that works and enables the astrologer to predict.
(6) The desire of a querist is also linked to his mental inclination to make efforts or in other
words undertake Karma for its accomplishment. As long as there is a burning desire in the mind
of a person, there emerges a similar aggressive desire to make efforts for its favourable
accomplishment also. To achieve something in life there has to be junoon, and unmaad, a craving
or yearning to the extent of madness, and hence birth of a prashana.
8. Are there chances of failure in horary astrology or its disadvantages?
There is every possibility for answers to the same query put at different times to vary. That can
happen only under following conditions:-
1. The same query is put to different astrologers at different times.
2. The astrologers may follow different almanacs.
3. The different astrologers may adopt either nirayana or sayana systems, with different
ayanamsa values.
4. The same astrologer may have lost/misplaced the original/first time prashana chart.
5. The astrologers consulted may be in different stations or towns/cities/zones for which
lagna corrections may have not been made.
6. Putting of same question at a number of times or to different astrologers does not make
the prashana a qualified one. So a prachchaka (querent) does not remain a prachchaka
(querent) in real sense and so his query can get wrong reply.
7. The questions asked by way of testing the astrologer or asked in a casual manner or to
make fun of astrology can lead to failure in its correctness.
Under these circumstances, the reply can be erratic and horary astrology fails.

9. What are advantages of horary astrology?

3
When there is a crisis trouble in the life of an individual or nation, he becomes anxious
about the future of self or nation and goes to an astrologer. In many cases, horoscopes are not
forthcoming and even if they are, the astrologer will have to verify the charts and then make
various calculations. Whereas, a query is easy to put and getting answer through horary system.
Advantages are:
1. Its applicability and significant in daily life is a reliable guidance.
2. Many authoritative texts provide definite and specific planetary combinations that give
clear-cut answers.
3. There are fundamental principles of an unimpeachable quality in horary astrology.
4. If the principles are deployed well, it is quite easy to answer all emergent questions.
5. The planetary data used are drig ganitha and therefore trust-worthy.
6. The predicted events can easily be checked in a very short-term period.
7 7. It could be valid for a year only and so it does not preclude the subsequent creation of
8 another horary chart.
8. It is more useful in predictions than a natal chart.
1. This branch of science can answer all questions and clear all doubts.
Generally, this branch of science is resorted to, mostly by those who have no horoscopes
or who doubt the correctness of their horoscopes.
10. Q: How a reply can be given without casting a horoscope?
Ancient seers have prescribed that a querent should go to an astrologer on an auspicious
day in the forenoon, with flowers and fruits in his hands, and put questions with due devotion. An
important feature of queries is the minute observation of omens by the astrologer. Similarly, the
directions occupied by the querent, his behaviour, the particulars of the ground he occupies etc. are
noted carefully. According to some the east, west, north and northeast are beneficial to the querent,
while others opine that success comes to those who stand in the east or west.
There are eight types of querent’s gesticulations and the effects are given out immediately
according to their nature. They are
i. Samyukta (Touched) – the querent touches his body at the time of query means gain or
advantage to the person concerned.
ii. Asamyukta (Untouched) – The query made while walking, laying, setting or riding
conveyance means success after long delay.
iii. Abhihita (Contacted) – The querist touches a limb on his left side with his left hand
means failure.
iv. Anabhihita (Uncontacted) – If the querent touches some body else with his hand
means failure.
v. Abhighaatika (Struck) – The querent rubs or presses his head, hips, chest, hand or foot
means grief and distress.
vi. Aalingita (Embraced) – The querent touches a limb on his right side with his right
hand means profit success or happiness etc.
vii. Abhidhumita (darkened) – The querent touches his whole body with either hands
means partial success, arrival of friends and the like.
viii. Dagdha (burnt) – The querent weeps, is distressed or frightened or sad means
untoward effects.
As per Prasna Marga, the astrologer should note every thing about the querist such as the
nature of the spot occupied by him the nature of his own breath, his own condition or state, what
the querist touches, arudha rasi, the direction, the first letter of the words uttered by the querist,
the deportment (behaviour) of the querist, his movements or mental attitude, his looking at a
particular direction or a thing, his dress and ominous sounds or indicative signs at that time.
11. What is basis of prashana chart?

4
Jyotisha is a vedanga. Jyotisha is divided into 3 skandhas i.e. siddhanta (mathematical &
astronomy), samhita (natural phenomenon like earthquakes, weather, famines, epidemics) and
hora (natal predictive). These 3 skandhas were classified into 6 parts– siddhanta, samhita, hora,
shakun (omens), muhurta and prashana. Prashana is the horary astrology and thus has Vedic
Origin.
As a result birth charts erected on probable data do not yield satisfactory results. As regards the
majority of the people who are not equipped with correct birth details, Hindu rishis of old have
opened a new avenue of studying and answering a specific problem or query by erecting a chart
for the specific moment when a query is made. This helps man to know about the result of the
specific problem in advance.
This branch of science is mysterious, prefect, wonderful and most useful. After thoroughly
understanding the principles, one can offer correct, clear and precise predictions without any
confusion. This method is as rational and as scientific as any other branch of astrology and it is
the sublime art of fore-seeing events from the position of the planets at the moment when one
propounds a question seriously about any important matter such as longevity, health, success or
failure in one’s enterprise, one’s stay in foreign land or his return, the time of marriage, the
description of partner, re-union or divorce, birth and death of children, sex of the child, results of
the examination, recovery of lost articles, return of missing person or traveler, gain by lottery,
success in litigation, legacy and anything and everything. The answer to question whose result is
awaited in immediate near future can be found out from horary astrology. This branch of science
is neither a bluff nor it dupes the gullible throng.
12. Q: Can an astrologer depend on a prashana chart?
A. Surely yes, prashana division of astrology has Vedic origin.
Majority of the people who are not equipped with correct birth details; Hindu rishis of old
have opened a new avenue of studying and answering a specific problem or query by erecting a
chart for the specific moment when a query is made. This helps man to know about the result of
the specific problem in advance. This system is as rational and as scientific as any other branch of
astrology and it is the sublime art of fore-seeing events from the position of the planets at the
moment when one propounds a question seriously about any important matter such as longevity,
health, success or failure in one’s enterprise, one’s stay in foreign land or his return, the time of
marriage, the description of partner, re-union or divorce, birth and death of children, sex of the
child, results of the examination, recovery of lost articles, return of missing person or traveler,
gain by lottery, success in litigation, legacy and anything and everything. The answer to question
whose result is awaited in immediate near future can be found out from horary astrology. This
branch of science is neither a bluff nor it dupes the gullible throng. Such question can not easily
be answered from the natal chart. Here the astrologer has to depend on prashana chart and it is a
known and proved that horary not only gives accurate replies but also has come to the aid of a
person in need. Various classical works too contain separate on horary system. Independent works
like shatapanchashika and that by Bhattotpala are known for this system. In olden days, an
astrologer relied more on this system. The status of a planet being combust or retrograde or a
badhaka does give variant and accurate results in horary than in natal system. Hence, reliability
or dependability of horary system is neither questionable nor debatable. It is a clear cut, precise
and the most accurate system.
13 Q: What are the conditions where prashana chart does not have any parallel?

5
Human life is beset with problems and there is a natural urge in man to know whether his
problems will bet successfully solved. It is here that Horary Astrology comes to his aid. Most of
the persons do not possess their accurate birth data. As a result birth charts erected on probable
data do not yield satisfactory results. As regards the majority of the people who are not equipped
with correct birth details, Hindu rishis of old have opened a new avenue of studying and
answering a specific problem or query by erecting a chart for the specific moment when a query
is made. This helps man to know about the result of the specific problem in advance.
There are many areas in which natal chart can not be read properly and only prashana
chart comes to our aid. Such areas are longevity, health, success or failure in one’s enterprise,
one’s stay in foreign land or his return, the time of marriage, the description of partner, re-union
or divorce, birth and death of children, sex of the child, results of the examination, recovery of
lost articles, return of missing person or traveler, gain by lottery, success in litigation, legacy and
anything and everything. The answer to question whose result is awaited in immediate near
future can be found out from horary astrology.
There may be more question like one will get leave from office, or whether the business
or marriage negotiations currently going on will be fruitful or whether one is likely to get
transferred to a specific place or whether one’s desire is going to be fulfilled or not. Such like
questions can be easily and accurately answered through horary and as such it has no parallel. In
such questions it is no possible at all for an astrologer to answer them without resorting to horary
astrology.
It may be mentioned that at the time of asking questions, omens (lakshnan) or the breaths
(swara) of the astrologer do play an important role and many a times astrologers have given correct
prediction based on these factors only. These factors are also a division of horary system and can
be utilised in the absence of a prashana chart or where is not possible to erect a prashana chart. As
per Prasna Marga, the astrologer should observe environments and note every thing about the
querist such as the nature of the spot occupied by him the nature of his own breath, his own
condition or state, what the querist touches, arudha rashi, the direction, the first letter of the words
uttered by the querist, the deportment (behaviour) of the querist, his movements or mental attitude,
his looking at a particular direction or a thing, his dress and ominous sounds or indicative signs at
that time. According to some the east, west, north and northeast are beneficial to the querent, while
others opine that success comes to those who stand in the east or west. Illustrious Varahamihira,
however, favours only the east, north and northeast. In the present day context this type of
prediction has become obsolete because of office like environment of the astrologer. Thus horary
astrology is a unique system in it self and can easily dispense with other known systems.
14 Q: Do you see any link between prashana chart and natal chart?
A. Prashana chart and natal chart are not separate entities. Both give predictions about the
future of a native and read his destiny. A native’s destiny can be read from either of the charts.
The difference is that in horary system results of the immediate future or of specific queries
become evident whereas the natal gives timing and results of such events on the basis of dasa
system. The results of both coincide and some times natal chart act as a supplementary chart to
the horary one. Rather both charts act as complementary to each other and an astrologer can pin
point events more accurately with the help of both charts. It is not possible or even desirable to
compare the superiority of one system over the other. Both system work in a designed fashion
with set principles applicable to them and an exponent in astrology take benefit of both systems
before arriving at a definite and accurate answer. These two systems are linked to each other
rather one act as confirmatory to the other and it is easy for an astrologer to come a definite
reply. However, their study is peculiar to each of the system and can be summarized as under:-
1. In horary astrology, we know the exact time, date and place of query whereas the
correctness of horoscope cannot be vouchsafed in natal astrology.

6
2. Horary gives instantaneous replies to the question, whereas in natal, dasa, antardahsa
even up to sooksham dasha are to be calculated which entails a lot of time-consuming factor.
5. Exactness of the events likely to occur in immediate future is predicted easily in a horary
chart than in a natal chart.
Q. 15. How lagna is fixed for horary chart?
Ans. 1.There is many ways of arriving at lagna. To find out arudha lagna, an innocent child is
made to place a coin or flower in one of the signs of the Zodiac drawn in front of the astrologer.
The astrologer may take out a handful of cowries from a heap after praying to the Supreme; or he
may ask the querent to name a flower, river or deity or give a number at random; it may also be
derived from the first syllable of the words he utters and fix the lagna as per number of cowries
falling with face downwards.
2. The astrologer may proceed based on words or names, the first syllable is noted and its
lord ascertained. Then the planet’s sign is fixed. If the first syllable belongs to ka varga, the
planet indicated is Mars; if to cha varga, Venus; if to Taurus varga, Mercury; if to Taurus varga,
Jupiter; if to pa varga, Saturn; vowels are ruled by the Sun; and the eight letters ya to ha belong
to the Moon. Since, Mars, etc., rule over two houses each, the first, third or fifth syllable of a
class would point to the planet’s odd sign, while the even to the even sign.
3. The best is to make a chart at the time of prashana.
4. Uttarkalamrit has given a simple way. Chart can be erected after asking the querist a
number between 0 and 108. Divide this number by 9. Resultant will show the elapsed rashis and
remainder indicates the rising navamsha of the next sign. E.g., say the number spoken is 69.
Dividing it by 9, we get 7 as quotient and 6 as remainder. This means that lagna has crossed
seven signs and is in Scorpio and is in 6th navamsha, 16°40’ to 20° Scorpio is prashana lagna.

7
16. Importance of rashi in the Lagna and of lagna lord in horary chart:
The classification of prashana lagna at the time of query whether ‘chara’ (movable);
‘sthira’ (fixed) or ‘dwiswabhava’ (dual), Sheershodaya, Prishtodaya or Ubhodaya and whether
upward looking, downward looking or sideways looking or whether a human sign gives an idea
of the reply whether it is going to be positive or negative. .
A movable lagna indicates that the present position is going to change, a change from the
present status or situation. Suppose a person asks if there is any chance of his leaving his present
position. If the sign rising at the time and its amsa are both moveable, then we may say that he is
likely to change his place. If Moon also occupies the ascendant, which moves very fast the
change is almost certain. Movable lagna aspected by benefics indicates that the change will take
place, whereas movable lagna aspected by malefics indicates that the person hopes for the
change, which may not take place.
A fixed lagna on the other hand indicates no change or a situation of status quo. The
person will not go abroad and the patient will not recover. If there is a proposal of journey, it will
not take place. So too the cure of disease, recovery of lost articles will not occur.
Aspects, both good and bad, are given proper consideration. The results will be mixed if
the rising sign is a dual one; if it is the first half the results will be similar to those of the fixed
sign, and if latter to those of the movable one. A dual lagna indicates delay and difficulties. It
indicates delay and fulfillment of desires only after making efforts in this regard.
1. Sheershodaya or Rising from the head: Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra Scorpio and Aquarius are
sheershodaya signs. These signs under benefic influence indicate fructification of Prashana.
2. Prishtodaya or Rising from the hind: Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius and Capricorn are
Prishtodaya signs. These signs are not favourable for Prashana specially if under malefic
influence.
3. Ubhodaya or Rising from both ways: Pisces is the only ubhodaya sign. This sign indicates
delay or hindrances in the fulfillment of desire.
4. Urdhvamukh (upward looking) signs are the sign left behind by Sun and its trines.
5. Adhomukh (downward looking) sign occupied by Sun and its trines.
6. Tiryanamukh (sideways looking) sign to be occupied by Sun and its trines.
Upward or forward looking signs as lagna are favourable for positive results.
Tiryanamukh or an adhomukha sign in lagna in not favourable unless occupied or aspected by its
lord or benefics.
7. Lagna signs based on feet: Biped or humane (two feet): Signs 3, 6, 7, first ½ of 9 and 11 are
strong when these rise in lagna.
8. Quadruped or bestial (four feet): Signs 1, 2, 5, second ½ of 9, first ½ of 10 are strong when
these signs coincide with 10th house.
9. Reptiles (many feet): Signs 4, second ½ of 10 and 12 are strong when these signs coincide
with 4th house; rashi 8 is strong when this sign coincides with 7th house;
Biped and Quadruped signs as lagna are positive and others are negative.
When lagna falls in other signs and is aspected or occupied by benefics or is occupied or
aspected by its lord, then benefics good results flow.
Moreover, strength of lagna lord is very important to ascertain fulfillment of the desire. If
lagna lord is afflicted by a malefic or is defeated by a malefic in planetary war, or is weak or
combust it looses its strength and gives unfavorable results.
17. How do we predict failures in horary:
The following indicators in a horary chart give failure in the mission of the querent:-
1. Malefics in quadrants and trines lead to poverty and sufferings.
2. If the 9th house is aspected by or joined with benefics, the person will come by a fortune
unexpectedly. Malefics in that position will destroy wealth unexpectedly.

8
3. If ascendant is a biped or quadruped sign and is aspected by a malefic.
4. The Moon is debilitated and weak.
5. Lord of ascendant, the Moon and the Jupiter are all afflicted.
6. Prishtodaya lagna is unfavourable especially when aspected by a malefic.
7. If lagna, lagna lord and Moon are weak in the prashana chart, it leads to failure.
8. Lagna lord posited in houses 6, 8 or 12 indicates failure. Similarly 6th, 8th, 12th lords
posited in lagna are also not favourable.
9. Malefics in lagna or aspecting lagna are also not good except in cases of fights, disputes,
court cases etc.
10. When lagna, lagnesh or karyesha are hemmed by malefics.
11. Planets defeated by malefics in a planetary war give unfavourable results.
12. Any planet posited in 7th house from its exaltation, mooltrikona or own house is weak and
is not capable of giving good results.
13. Moon in prashna lagna is generally not auspicious, except when it is full Moon (5 days
either side of full Moon).
14. Best of Tajik yogas fail to give results if karyesha is very weak.
15. A tiryanamukh (sideways looking) or an adhomukha (downward looking) sign in lagna in
not favourable unless occupied or aspected by its lord or benefics.
18 Q: What are essentials for success in mission of the querent?
Ancient seers have prescribed that a querent should go to an astrologer on an auspicious
day in the forenoon, with flowers and fruits in his hands, and put questions with due devotion.
After the erection of the horary chart, the following indicators give success in the mission
of the querent:-
1. Lagna and lagna lords play a major role in hoary astrology. The strength or weakness
respectively of the lagna and the lagna lord indicates the success and failure of the query.
Sometime on the basis of lagna, planets in lagna, sign in lagna, aspect on the lagna lord
one can give reply to the query.
2. If dwipada signs (Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Aquarius and first half of Sagittarius) or
chatushpada signs (Aries, Taurus, Leo, 2nd half of Capricorn) are posited in lagna and
aspected by benefic planets, the query will fructify.
3. If any house is occupied by, aspected by the lord of the sign of the house or occupied by
or aspected by Jupiter, Venus or Mercury the signification of the house fructify/flourish
(provided Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are functional benefics for the lagna).
4. Whichever house is occupied or aspected by its own lord, will give only benefic results.
5. If the lord of the house is benefic and occupies a benefic house it will give good results.
6. Whenever the 2nd, 12th, 7th, 4th and 10th houses from lagna or any house are occupied by
benefic planets, the said house will yield benefic results.
7. If the lagna falls in Sheershodaya sign and aspected by benefic or occupied by benefic,
the results of query will be auspicious.
8. If benefic planets occupy the Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) and malefics the 3rd, 6th and 11th
house good results, gain and financial prosperity are indicated.
9. If the lagna lord or the planet that is friendly to him is posited in Kendra and malefic
planets are posited in other than Kendra, 8th and 12th, only good results will follow.
10. If benefic planets are posited in 2nd, 5th and 9th the querist would realize his ambitions.
11. Whichever house at the time of question is either occupied or aspected by its own lord or
by Jupiter or Mercury or Venus will proper.
12. Marriage will be celebrated if Moon is in 3 rd, 5th, 6th, 7th or 11th if aspected by benefics are
in angles.

9
Object of querent will also be realized if:
i. Lagnesh aspects lagna and karyesha aspects karyabhava.
ii. Lagnesh aspects karyabhava and karyesha aspects lagna.
iii. Lagnesh aspects karyesha and karyesha aspects lagnesh (karyesha and lagnesh are in
mutual aspect).
iv. Lagnesh and karyesha have mutual exchange of houses or signs.
v. Lagnesh and karyesha both are in lagna.
vi. Lagnesh and karyesha both are in karyabhava.
vii. Karyesha is in lagna and aspects lagnesh.
viii. Lagnesh is in karyabhava and aspects karyesha.
ix. Lagnesh and karyesha have favourable Tajik aspects.
x. Lagnesh and 11th lord are in favourable yogas.
Role of Moon in horary chart - The role of the Moon is significant in the horary chart. If the
Moon aspects any one of the six yogas mentioned above, it yields most favourable results. If the
Moon is not afflicted and lagna and its lord are aspected by a benefic planet, it is a sign of sure
fulfillment. The Moon strengthens the house which he aspects. If the Moon aspect lagna or
lagna lord or the house of question, quick good results follow.
Favourable lagnas in horary charts:
1. Sheershodaya signs (3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11) are favourable as lagna.
2. Urdhvamukh (sign left behind by Sun and its angles) are favourable as lagna.
3. Human signs (3, 6, 7, 11 and 1st half of 9) are favourable as lagna.
When lagna falls in these signs and is aspected or occupied by benefics, good results flow.
19. What are limitations in horary astrology?
The limitations are regarding fixation of lagna. There are various methods of fixing lagna in a
horary chart but an astrologer resorts to one method only.
i. Udaya lagna: Horary astrology is based on the chart of the time of communication of
question by the questioner to the astrologer. This time is to be reckoned when questioner
approaches the astrologer and utters the prashana.
ii. Arudha lagna: This lagna is fixed as per direction of the querent. This method was
prevalent in olden days but not in modern times because the astrologers run modern
offices for this work and the querist always sits in one direction so this method is not
practicable.
iii. Kalidasa’s method: The lagna is fixed based on a number given up to 108. There are
108 Navamshas in the zodiac and lagna is fixed on the Navamsha as per given number.
Moreover, there is every possibility for answers to the same query put at different times
to vary. That can happen under certain conditions:-
1. The same query is put to different astrologers at different times.
2. The astrologers may follow different almanacs.
3. The different astrologers may adopt either niryana or sayana systems, with
different ayanamsa values.
4. The same astrologer may have lost/misplaced the original/first time prashana chart.
5. The astrologers consulted may be in different stations or towns/cities/zones for which
lagna station connections may have not been made.
Such queries are subject to wrong deductions. Horary in such cases fails to satisfy the querent.
20. Navamsha ascendant theory:
The navamsha, in a prashana chart is said to hold the essence of the answer. When rashi
chart does not give clearcut clues, look to navamsha ascendant. If this ascendant is under
benefic influence, it means success but if malefics influence the navamsha ascendant, it results in
failure despite good or bad position of benefics or malefics in the chart.

21. Swara method:
At the time of question, if on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or on Friday --- if left nadi
is flowing more smoothly--------------this shows good results, i.e. positive answer to the question.
At the time of question, if on Tuesday, Sunday, and Saturday --- if right nadi is flowing
more smoothly---------------------------this shows good results, i.e. positive answer to the question.
Reverse nadi on such week days gives negative results.
22. How to analyze a Prashana chart?
The fundamental rules for analyzing this chart are the same as for natal chart. But
Parashara demands more sharpness in judgment. It is important to concentrate deeply on the
nature of rashis, their tattwas, form, size, sex, qualities, directions, residing places and ruling
body parts, mode of rising etc. These entire specifications fan give a clue about the direction
where a lost article can be found or a missing person may have moved. Similarly what could be
the caste, sex and appearance of a thief can also be ascertained by qualities of rashis in relevant
houses. In a query regarding disease, afflicted rashis indicates the part of body affected by
disease. The relation between lagna lord and significator (karyesha) can straightway tell the
result of the prashana whether favourable or not. The various combinations and the strength of
lagna also points whether there will be failure or success to the querist.
23. Shortcut method: The co-existence of the signs according to the following table gives fairly
accurate results in horary astrology at the time of query. Find out the signs in which lagna Sun or
Moon falls. Then find out the results as per following chart:
